I just installed XP Pro on my Acer Extensa 4630Z and I installed all the drivers successfully but the wireless driver. I tried all the drivers from acer's support site (insert http) support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/ex_4630.html none of them work. I also tried what worked for Davoucci with same laptop but this driver also doesn't work for me (insert http) support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=22383&dscr=Broadcom%20Wireless%20Driver%20Version:%204.170.25.12&uid=213871985
Any suggestions?

Yes, remove the old drivers first(Add/Remove Programs, Control Panel), and if you don't have any drivers for wireless listed in the Device Manager or Add/Remove, uninstall the "1394 Network Device"(or something like that) from the Device Manager, then try to install a new wireless driver. DO NOT RESTART AFTER THE UNINSTALLATION OF THE OLD DRIVERS otherwise XP may load them again.
-
Yea I did exactly that removed drivers from Add/Remove Programs then installed new ones. I tried 3 different drivers from the acer support site they all don't work. For this model there is no 1394 to remove.
Here are the drivers I tried:
WLAN_Atherors_V5.3.0.85_XP(WHQL)
WLAN_Broadcom_V4.170.25.19_XP(WHQL)
WLAN_Intel_V12.0.0.73_XP(WHQL)
From gateway Wireless_Broadcom_4312_v4.170.25.12_XPx86 -
try opening the wifi card bay cover and take a note of Make, model and Version number then post here.
i had a conflict with my broadcom card when windows zero configuration and the broadcom software both tried to run the card and i got nothing.
now i only use the broadcom drivers and software and have windows zero config disabled in services.

I had the same problem and this was Acer's reply.
If you are still unable to connect, It may help to try these suggestions:
1. Disable the eNet Manager.
- Click on the eNet Manager icon in the system tray (lower right corner, where the clock is.) Or in the Widget bar for the eRecovery click on the icon that looks like a globe.
- In the window that comes up choose Settings on the lower edge of that window.
- Uncheck all boxes and click the X to close this window. Make sure “Launch Acer eNet Management automatically when starting Windows” DOES NOT have a check mark next to it.
- Now, click on start, then Control Panel.
- In the Control Panel, click on Administrative tools.
- In that window, choose Services. In the services window is a list of all the services running on your computer, they are in alphabetical order. You are looking for eNet Service . Right click on it and choose stop.
- Restart your computer.
These steps should disable the eNet management. You can undo this by repeating the steps or you can use the System Restore to roll back the system to a point before this change was made. I am including a link to Microsoft's site that explains how to use this tool, how it works, and how to undo a system restore. Please note that this will work only if a starting point was created. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;306084
2. Winsock Reset:
- Click the Start button and then click on Run.
- In the Run window command line type in CMD and press enter, or click OK.
- A black command prompt window will come up.
- At the command prompt type NETSH and press Enter.
- A NETSH command prompt will appear
- Type WINSOCK RESET then press Enter. It will display the following message: Successfully reset the Winsock Catalog. You must restart the machine in order to complete the reset.
3. Remove and reinstall the wireless adapter:
- Click on Start, the right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
- In the computer management window that opens, on the left side, choose Device Manager.
- Look for the network adapter heading in the list on the right. Click on the + next to network adapters.
- Right click on the wireless adapter listed under network adapters, choose uninstall. It may ask if you are sure you want to remove it, say yes.
- Close that window and restart the computer. As it reboots, it will reinstall the driver we just deleted. When it is completely start up, try your wireless connection. -
Reply for gramps:
For step 1, none of the acer software is installed yet.
Step 2 and 3 didn't make any difference. Thanks for trying
Reply for Hoggie:
On the Acer sticker for the Wireless it says: Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/Draft-N WLAN
On the card it says:
T77H053.00 LF
E200038951 - 05
800279 GP
and thats about it hope that helps. -
is the wifi card light/indicator on.?
is the card set to auto. by default it is set to use Draft-n.is your router a draft-N.
this is the driver(xp) for that card see link
http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/data/7117/documents/AS5050_WLAN_Atheros.zip -
No the wifi light isnt on even if I press the button, I also have a bluetooth button.
The card isnt set on anything its a yellow exclamation mark under device manager in other devices its called Network Controller. Those drivers didn't work either. You would think if acer supports this laptop with all the other drivers why not make a specific WLAN driver for this Extensa 4630Z. Its frustrating because this is the only driver missing and I don't want to go back to vista after all this long work.
Should I email acer directly about this problem?
Answer from Acer which is major BS:
Take note that currently we do not have Windows XP drivers for download for your computer model which is Acer Extensa 4630Z. If you have downloaded a wireless card driver, it is possible that the driver that you obtain is not compatible with the wireless device installed on your system. Also, Acer's support is for the shipping OEM only. We have not tested non-Acer OEM or retail versions of Windows. Some drivers may be missing after the installation of a non-Acer OEM operating system. If this occurs, you may be able to locate the needed drivers by going to acerpanam.com under Drivers & Downloads. From here, search for your model of computer. If the drivers you need are not provided there, or those offered do not resolve the problem, we do not have others available. I'm sorry but I am unable to assist you further with this matter. I hope this clarifies. -
driver that worked for me:
(add http) komku.blogspot.com/2008/10/acer-aspire-7730-vista-xp-drivers-and.html
download that one:

Hello VZ1,
Since you have all the drivers could you post a list? I just installed winxp on my 4630z-4658 and need the wired drivers, video, etc. It would be much appreciated, or if you could guide me to where they are. My search has been futile, except for this post where I got the wireless drivers.
Regards, -
NM, I found another post where the drivers can be had from acereu"rope".
