Since installing SP1 for Vista, my wireless has been frequently disconnecting - even every 30 mins or so. Very frustrating! I can't figure out why - driver seems to be up-to-date and I am running AC power.

I had just taken a long journey, but I doubt my wireless card could have been damaged? So what could be causing this? I'm sitting fairly close to the router, but it just disconnects and I have to reconnect again. Any suggestions or any known bugs with SP1 and Acer 5920G?

    Thanks!

    try this........
in device manager right click on the name of your wireless adapter > properties>power management > uncheck the option 'allow the computer to turn off this device '

Thanks for the idea - I thought it might fix it but no such luck! I never had this problem before, on other routers, just at this new place. But other laptops seem to be fine here (Win XP). So I don't really think it can be the router - could my wireless card be damaged somehow? Or am I doing something to disconnect when I have the laptop on my lap - like blocking signal or something?

    Maybe try this:

Left click on battery icon in tray -> power options -> change power scheme settings (or somethink simialar) -> change advanced power schemes settings -> wireless card settings -> power save module - check if all is on maximum perfomance

Because I have non english version of vista I might made some mistakes in options names, but I hope only slight mistakes.

    Hope it helps

i had this ages ago and found it was windows zero configuration. kept dropping connection every 30mins almost to the second.
i disabled it n services and now use the software for my wifi card Broadcom as this does a better job of handling wifi connections
WZC is junk use wifi cards manufacturers software if you can.

if you fix your problem pleases post back and let us know.
as it could help someone else
    Cheers Phil

Unfortunately my wireless card came inside the laptop and doesn't have separate software to use. I tried the battery settings too, suggested above. It's never happened before, just started recently.

What version are your drivers? And what wireless adapter do you have? Is it the 4965AGN or the 3965? Check your devicemanager.

    Regards,

11.5.0.32 drivers, and the 4965AGN device.

Laptop is Acer 5920G, 2GB RAM and 8600M GT. Only started having the problem recently in new flat.

Isn't it possible, that a device is interfering with your wifi? Or maybe another wlan router. You should change the current wireless channel on your router. Maybe u can find a clearer one. :)
