I'm sorry if I'm ranting, but I'd like to share a horrible experience I had with acer. Last year I purchased an Acer Aspire 5570Z Notebook for use in college. Around 3 months after I purchased it, the hard drive crashed. I sent the computer in at my own cost to have the hard drive replaced. After two weeks I received my notebook back, with a new hard drive, and a broken WiFi adapter.

I noticed that over winter break I was unable to connect to my home network, and in college, I noticed that I was unable to connect to any of the public WiFi hotspots, but was unable to lose my computer for another two weeks to have the issue repaired. Being that my dorm has a wired connection, I used that.

Today I called acer to have the issue resolved, and after reformatting my hard drive, the recognized that it is a hardware issue. I once again have to ship in my notebook. I explained to the customer representative that I had paid for shipping the first time, and since the part was damaged during the last service, they should cover shipping. They refused.

I know from friends with Mac's and HP's that they pay shipping both ways for any computer under warranty that is not working, and I believe that Acer should cover the shipping this time. I am also disappointed with my entire experience with Acer customer support. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

In the UK Acer pay shipping both ways. They use DHL and ask you to organise collection against their Contract Account - this means you and the courier arrange collection at a time/place best suited to you. I've used Acer's UK repair facility and they are swift, efficient and courtious. They collected Monday and I had the 5920 back by Friday.

I used UK Acer Warranty; was collected against their account by DHL on Monday. They didn't have the part required so they ordered it, received it by Friday, and by the next Tuesday [8 days after I sent it] it was delivered back to me. I didn't have to pay a penny, which is rather good.

I got my laptop (second hand) from EBAY UK.
    Model of 2005-2006
I am an IT , and lucky me , the previous owner are IT technician too.

I do not have any warranty , but with so many ACER parts all over EBAY , i do not worry at all .

I'm in Canada, and have the extended warranty for 3 years.
I used it once to have them replace the HDD after it stopped working properly. The sent me a new one BEFORE i had sent the old one back, of course, the new HDD was charged to my account until they received the old one. The paid shipping both ways, and provided a purolator sticker for me.

Wont connect to networks at all, now I'm on the hook for $40+ packing shipping and insurance, for teh second time on a $400 computer. I'll never buy an Acer again after this expirience.
