I need to get 6 notebooks for a new business, and the TravelMate 8100 (TM8104AWLMi to be exact) looks like it meets all of our requirements (few notebooks do).

I have in the past had HP/CPQ, ThinkPads, Toshiba, NEC, and DELL and none of them really stick out as being highly more reliable than the other.

But I've never had an Acer or dealt with them. Those of you who have, would you buy 6 of these to use in a fairly mission critical business environment?

    Why or why not?

    Thanks.

mine came with a faulty lcd backlight but everything else has been top-notch. the easy recovery option and gridvista program for multi-tasking makes acer a good choice for business. the 8104 is the sister notebook to my ferrari notebook and it's solid as a tank. it is a bit heavy for travelling though. the higher models, like the 8100 you're looking at are really "the whole package" and i'm very happy with mine.

You don't get to be the fourth largest notebook manufacture in the world by producing cr@p ;)

Of course all manufactures have lemons, so just be sure to research any issues that particular notebook might have.

From a business stand point the only thing the competition like dell might have over acer is customer support and warranty length.

Acer is a good choice - they have a good reliability record, according to the latest customer service surveys, and also, Acer's have very nice bulid quality and design in my opinion. I've had an Acer TravelMate in the past and I thought it was very reliable and had good performance.

At our office, we are entirely a Dell Shop. We've had good service for the most part. However, we have had not too many issues with our Dell latitudes, although more than I would care to mention - more than they should have. A lot of hard drive issues.

I'd have HP as my first choice, along with Lenovo - both make great products.

    So, HP/Lenovo > Acer > Dell.
