Would my system run a substantial amount faster if it was running XP as opposed to Vista Premium?

1.86 dual core processor, 2gb RAM

If so, would I need a XP disk to put XP onto my system? It came preloaded with Vista :(

well whenever windows seems to release an OS it tries to suck the potential from the hardware, so in order to compensate you get a faster computer.....

the settings you have would run vista just fine, but yea XP would run a bit faster

Vista runs just as fast as xp on supported hardware. It only runs slower when you don't turn of un-needed services etc.

Stick with vista, we have had too many complaints of ppl screwing up and deleting their D2D recovery partition without a backup image etc.

I agree with ssx4life to many people on this forum go and try to put XP on their vista notebook and then when they don't create the backup discs and have removed the PQservice partition(D2D recovery) by mistake when installing XP, will find themselves in a bad situation. I would advise you if you don't know what you are doing leave vista on the notebook. The only reason one should look at going to XP is if there is some critical piece of software that you absolutely need that doesn't work in vista.

My 5102 came with MCE2005 and I have upgraded to vista but my PQservice is still there so I can go back to XP at anytime, I also have the backup discs incase my hard drive had to be changed.

One other problem with going to XP on a notebook that originally came with vista is drivers. Acer notebooks that were released with only vista on them have no XP drivers available AFAIK so you will have to do some driver hunting which can be a very time consuming issue.

Your hardware is more than enough to comfortable run vista so just leave it alone; unless you know what you are doing and can successfully install XP without screwing up the notebook.

Even if acer does not support the drivers, that does not mean that that you can't find the needed drivers for the software (gpu / intel chipset / sound drivers for the manufactuer etc.)

But thank you for having some sanity in this messed up forum! Someone actually agrees with me instead of the typical "help I broke it I didn't do the research" etc.

Don't do it guys... even if vista is the worst peice of crap you've ever seen, it's not worth your time or headaches to swap out if you don't know what you are doing.

even just doing a clean install of vista with the upgrade disk and having to seive through all the different drivers on the acer site and other sites is enough to give you a headache!
