    I am trying to install XP pro from a regular copy as opposed to the recovery disk. How come it wont recognize my CD key on the bottom of the lapop?

    You"ll need to type the key from the retail CD case, the key on the botttom of the laptop is for OEM disc's that Acer provided.

    I ran into this problem too. Try finding an OEM XP Pro cd from somebody else and try the key. It might take a few tries to get a cd that will take the key.
