    Hi Folks,

Acer has released the 2nd Gen Gemstone with cool looks and great specs.

    Check out www.acer.com for pointers...

Do you really see any leap in design or goodies in the new-comers?

Like to hear your opinion. (5920G folks)

I definitely am jealous of the new looks but not surprised by the specs.

Gosh.. my gemstone looks old now. :(

Much better design than the 1st Gemstone series (guess they ditched the white porcelain idea) but weight-wise I'd still stick to my trusty 5920G :)

This new line of aspire might just convince me to sell of the 5920g in favor of the 8920g, but of course, the price will be one big factor here. If it'll cost about RM5000+ (USD 1700+) I most definitely will go for it. Looks so much better than the 5920g, seriously.

Wow I really like this new design for the gemstone especially the blue theme. I really didn't care for the first generation (5920) gemstones as I didn't like the "porcelain white" idea.

But what acer need to do now is reduce the weight of the 6920, 7+lbs is IMO a bit too heavy for my taste. Perhaps they should bring a 14" version.

Interesting.. acer bought gateway and now look at the screen on this new gemstone series they look exactly like a gateway screen.

I really like the look of the Acer Gemstone Blue notebook. The 8920G will have the option for 9650m gs. Benchmark wise, what kind of scores do you think do you think it will produce?

    Stream Processors 32
    Core Clock (MHz) 625
    Shader Clock (MHz) 1250
    Memory Clock (MHz) 800
    Maximum Memory 512MB
    Memory Interface 128-bit

After checking the nvidia website and reading other forums, I see that the 9650m gs will have the same specifications as the 8700m.

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_9650M_gs.html
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8700m.html

So based on the mobile graphics card benchmark, if we follow the results of the 8700, the 9650m would get 3dmark06 scores of around 4630? (question mark because I'm only guessing, not sure)

    Nice and cool design

Im really thinking of replacing my 5920G with the 8920

The only problem is the GFX card..if its like the 8700mGT, i might rethink of getting it.

they look thin enough for heavy notebooks. they are definitely better than the current generation gemstones.

Very cool design and they also design its dedicated web page and look very cool as well. I hope the build quality can be improved. Nice attempt from Acer :)

The Gemstone blue notebooks are gorgeous. im wondering how the speakers on it sound, especially with the DD features.

incredible! this source says that the woofer is a total of 10 watts!

    http://www.digitaltechnews.com/

thats amazing. my first 2.1 system had a woofer with only ten watts as as well... the Altec Lansing AVS300...
