i just bought Acer Ferrari 3400 yesterday... and i think i'm going to upgrade the ram into 1 giga next week.
here i have a few question for anyone who know about this notebook,

    1. does this notebook support DDR400 or PC 3200 RAM???

    2. which one is better, i'll change the RAM into 2x512MB or just one slot of 1 giga memory?

    3. does this notebook support dual chanel memory?

Thanks for any comment[ :)][8D][ :)][8D]

    i have the 3400
and i dont' believe it supports dual channel
yeah i think you could get pc3200, but you'd have to replace all of the ram in the 3400 otherwise it would still run at ddr333. And a 1 gig stick is far better.... as you have an open ram slot for a future upgrade, but it'd more expensive to do it that way.

mirdock, I have the Ferrari 3000 and I believe that it is equipped with the same LCD as the 3200 and the 3400. Although the screen on the 3000 is nice and qualitatively comparable to other notebooks in the same price range, I find that it (maybe not surprisingly) lacks the contrast, brightness and viewing angles of the more expensive stand-alone LCD's. As far as I know, you will not find high end screens on notebooks in this price range

The screen works great in most circumstances, but if you want to watch movies or DVDs you might want to switch to a better screen. The greatest problem in this regard is the rather narrow viewing angle and the black level.

    Ronald,

    1. It should work with PC3200 memory without any issue (the FSB is 1600Mhz = 800Mhz Up & Down Stream)

    2. I personall say stick with 2x512MB modules. If something were to happen with 1 module, you can get it replaced with the other is still working for you. With a 1 module setup, if something goes wrong, your down until replaced.

    3. Dual Channel memory is not supported on the VIA K8T800 Chipsets used in the notebook.

Here's the link regarding the VIA Chipset and what features it supports. The have 2 types, one for desktops that supports Dual Channel memory and the one used in this notebook that doesn't.
