Hi there.., Iam new here as u can tell.., and fromt the quick tour I got here I see that u can solve many problems as for 5930g,
so I got this wierd problem.., every time I but a dvd or cd in my dvd driver it cant be read by the vista.., I just hear sounds in the driver and got nothing at all !!
after I restart for 2 or 3 times it works and the vista does recognize it.., I got really sick of this.., so what should i do.., should I install xp or what.., even if that was the solution I need a dvd rw driver to burn a bootable cd with the sata drives.., lol , and apparently I cant cuz of that stupid problem .

I'm not sure what is causing the problem
The drive on my 5930 works fine, both reading and burning
maybe the cds/dvds are scratched.
Buy a blank CD and see if that is detected.
Also, if you hear sounds coming from the drive it means its working -
no Ive tried every kind of cd/dvds.., blank and not..., scratched and not and all the same,
but just a note.., the driver works fine on windows 7..!!! -
Maybe something within Vista is causing it to not work, also, try un-installing and burning software you have one by one, and see of that helps
Welcome to the forums by the way -
I dont know , I had a big hole in my wall out of hitting my head into it
..,
I also got an xp cd from a friend and installed it.., and its still the same!! -
oh.., I just switched modes in IDA controllers from the device manager, switched them from DMA to pio only..,
and just put the dvd and it WORKED !!
dont know y but as long as it works iam pleased -
I was going to suggest something similar, beacuse if it was working in win 7, it was probably due to some controller issue
Also, you might want to check out this thread
It is where you can find all the 5930 owners
You can also find drivers for XP, and discuss anything related to the laptop there
Now go fix your wall -
well, recent update.., after doing that and the driver worked well, I found out that affected the transfer rate speed..its now 3mb per second !!!!!!
and I assume u know the specifications of 5930g right ?
and after turning things back to how they were.., the driver did the same and the speed got to 50 mb!!! -
Yeah, PIO mode is extremely slow, you HAVE TO use DMA.
-
what do you mean by modes
I have noticed my drive is quite slow as well
How can you change the modes, and what is the difference
Thanks -
Thank You so much man!!!

Hai guys, I'm having the same problem as the OP. Well, kinda, I have the same laptop (it's great) but my DVD drive wont recognize blank discs... Games work but it just starts reading but at the point autoplay normally pops up it just beeps (not really beep but you know what I mean right) and starts reading again.
So far I've tried disabling/enabling the device, uninstalling and reinstalling the device, I've uninstalled AnyDVD but that didn't fix it and I've rebooted a couple of times.
Also the blank DVD is 4.7gb but the one time it did show up it showed up as a double layer one.
I really don't know what to do here guys... Please help. Oh if someone could explain how I change between DMA/PIO it would be very much appreciated since I don't really care about it burning slow atm, it just needs to burn.
Help me notebook review, you're my only hope!
Edit; I'm now uninstalling all software involving a DVD drive except for Nero. Then I'm gonna uninstall/reinstall drive again. I hope this works.
Edit2; Nope, it didn't.
Edit3; Blank CD-Rs still work -
Check the link in the first post on this page
It explains hoe to change between the different modes
Hope it helps
