I removed the cover, unhooked the hard drive cable, and pulled on the clear tab. the hard drive will lift up in one corner but won't come out. is there a trick to this?

yeah... i had the same problem too. It's just that the soft black cushions on all sides of the hard disk hold it very effectively... you'll have to use your hands to gently persuade the hard disk out.......

One more important thing.... there is a vent for flow of air on the same side as the Sata connecter on the system... make sure you dont block it by pushing the cushion down when you replace your hard drive... or else your HDD is going to heat up real fast...
