my bios clock keeps moving one hour back.. I correct it then it snaps back when i reboot the machine. I notice this as the time in windows 7 then changes.

My thought was that the battery was gone - but that cause it to reset completely rather than just lose an hour surely?

    many thanks
    Tom

From one hand your are right about battery, from another hand - maybe its voltage level is reached the level, when the time generator starts to function with such behavior, but overall voltage level is still enough to maintain a settings you`ve entered in BIOS. Another possible situation - your BIOS have an error in the code. Maybe updating it with a new version can solve the problem.

    thanks propolkin

maybe I'll try a bios update later, guess it could be that.

one other thing I noticed - it's not actually changing EVERY reboot. Just occasionally it reverts to being an hour slow. Don't know if that supports your idea that it's the voltage dropping to a level that just causes occasional bios malfunction rather than it failing or resetting completely.

    cheers

I find it hard to believe that battery voltage dropping would cause such a specific action and nothing else.
That said standard operating procedure is to replace BIOS battery if something similar happens - it's cheap and even if it doesn't help it at least rules out the most typical issue.

That was just an assumption. i`ve never seen such behaviour because of the voltage drop, but, theoretically it could. But, as I said in this message, I`ve never too seen such behaviour because of the voltage drop.

As downloads said, try to change the battery. If that will not help - try to update BIOS. :)
