    Hello,

I have 4820TG diavolo as you see the details on my signature and very often I get problem that my screen gets frozen and I cant do anything. I cant open task manager, I cant move my mouse, I cant go into sleep, hibernate..nothing.
I can only force a shutdown by holding shutdown button.
When I go to event viewer, I see this error message under system events.

WLAN Extensibility Module has failed to start.

    Module Path: C:\Windows\system32\athExt.dll
    Error Code: 126

anyone knows that error or experienced that problem?
    your helps are appreciated.
    thanks.

A frozen system can sometimes be caused by Frozen Harddisk and the WLAN Error message is caused by the Atheros WiFi.
You can try reinstalling Atheros Driver from HP.

I tried but unfortunately no help :( anyone else is having this problem and solution for it? thanks

edit: it looks like my SSD is not performing when this problem occurs because normally there is SSD light blinking while it performs but during this problem, it doesnt blink and it makes noises. when i go to event viewer I see only error as i wrote above.

SSD make noises? I would back up my data as soon as possible!! Have you tried to reinstall your OS? If not try that and update your drivers, if the issue remains it is most likely your SSD but to be sure, you can install your HDD back inn and use it for few days or hours and see if that solves the problem. If it does, I assume you have figured out what the problem is?

    Hi Tunay,

thank you very much for your reply but I didnt add SSD later, this is original came with my notebook. I purchased notebook like 6 months a go. thats why i wouldnt mess the warranty by testing with hdd. I am a developer and re-installing notebook will kill me while I have all these big development programs :) I am not sure if this is directly problem with SSD while i can see error msg for WLAN in event viewer. this could cause SSD to be stopped as well.

To replace your HDD should not void your warranty. And, it can be your SSD failing on you if you really have something important on that drive I would have a up to date backup. I don't belive those windows error messages, if the brain of your laptop is starting fail, it is obivius that the error messges can't be 100% accurate. However, this is just my opinion. What about to clone your solid state drive to a harddisk?

thanks again your reply, I appreciated but I was bit doubtful about replacing ssd with hdd before I wrote acer support and got an answer from them. They told me I can try to upgrade my Bios version. when I check newer bios versions, comment on acer's site tells "Improves S3 long run when use one Micron ram module." any idea? what is that mena? what is an S3 long run?

    Sorry for my bad english.
I had the same problem. SSD causing freezes with same notebook.
I did everything possible. nothing helped.

A 99,9% working solution for you: Upgrade your SSD firmware by using intels firmware at their homepage. dont use their update searcher. just search for the firmware for the 160 gig x25-m, download it, burn the iso on a empty CD-rom and boot from that CD. follow the steps.

It will solve the freezes for 99,999%.

My freezes began, after i reinstalled win 7 freshly. Fighted several month with that problem. I'm very very sure, this firmware upgrade will solve your freezes.

EDIT: Link (hope he will work)
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?lang=eng&changeLang=true&DwnldId=18363

If its not working search for "160 x25-m". it has to be FW 02M3

Yes. Most likely, everything on your drive will be ersed. I have 3 OCZ, and everything gets deleted when I upgrade fw on them...

@tunjay: please dont post something about things, of that you are not 100% sure about.
@emil-bg: Nothing will be erased. Burn the CD, boot from it and it will perform upgrade. No data gets lost, the SSD's won't be touched in any ways. I own the 4820tg diavolo ii with 160gig intel x25-m.
my acer freezed mostly while unpacking big movies with winrar
