Hi,
I was thinkin in buying the Acer 5004, mainly because it has turion 64, 1gb of memory and in argentina it costs around u$s 1500.
But I've read many reviewers that said that the 5003 was a bad notebook and that it had many problems.
Is this true?.
I just want to know what you all Acer knowning guys recommend. I really don't want to got a bad notebook because they are really expensive down here and I want to use it for at least 4 years.
Best regards,
C.

What else is available down there within your budget? Usually something like a ThinkPad R series will offer good quality on a lower budget. If it is available, the Dell Latitudes offer good quality at a more reasonable price.
-
The problem is that Iwas looking for Turion based notebooks and the Acers are the only ones with Turion here.
-
By limiting yourself to 64 bit you are severely limiting your options.
-
yes I know, but I want a latptop that will work fine with the next operating systems. that why I thought to pick a turion 64.
I read somewhere here that was the best choice. -
If you are refering to Windows Vista, it will run fine on 32 bit. The 32 bit version in fact will be released first. 64 bit will become mainstream, but it will take some time.

Hi,
I have the HP pavillion dv5000z in the list also.
I was making the choice thinking that as fast as everything goes in computers, probably in the 2007 64bit is already a must.
I change my desktop pc every two years. -
sorry the model is the HP PAVILION ZV6130US
-
It is really not a must, but it can't hurt either.
-
so, do you guys recommend me to stay away from the AMD 64?
I thought it was a good move... -
Doesnt the Aspire 5000 series use SISm760gx chipset, the same as in my Aspire 3000 series laptop. Let me tell you, its pathetic. So you can very well forget running vista through it. So you should consider a cheap core duo or centrino laptop accourding to your budget. 64 bit support doesnt mean much, yet it will take a lot of time to become mainstream. On the otherhand, although AMD processors are on par with Intel counterparts, the chipsets used are mostly desktop or slightly modified chipsets which consume power like hell and DRAIN the battery. a 2-3 hrs is MAX for these notebooks even with a 8 celled battery.
So make your choice right -
have you thought of getting a cheap core duo laptop and then later this year upgrading to a good merom (core 2 duo) CPU, which apparently is gona be cheap?

I have Vista installed on my 5002LM, which is a slower processor and half of the RAM, and it runs OK... how much is down to system performance and how much to unfinished coding is anyone's guess, but it does the job. The graphics will allow you to run Vista well in 2D mode but forget any pixel shading with that graphics card. As for games, you can *just* run HL2 but with some compatibility issues. Having said that, UT2004 runs quite well in a window
.
If you can, invest in a notebook with better graphics... the Aspire 5200 series, for example. -
