ive been looking arouind the forums here and ive read that my acer 5315 can be upgraded a bit which i love as i dont like the poor celeron cpu and the 512mb ram so i bought the best cpu i could which wat a core 2 duo t7700 and 2 2 gig ram sticks (pc2-5300) problem is the cpu works a treat but when i put the 4 gig ram my lappy resets when windows tries to load and i dont understand why? it works great with 1 2gb ram and 1 512mb but only when i put the 512 in 1st then the 2gb stick on top, im sure i have prob miss read sommit but dont know wat, can anyone help me out on this issue?

oh and i did do a reformat on my system when i upgraded and i even used a 64 bit windows as i know the 32 bit version dont really like 4 gig

acer 5315 can only work with maximum 3GB RAM - it is chipset limitation.

Maximum memory installed in Acer Aspire5315 is limited to 2GB as stated by Crucial.

Not quite. Either the chipset supports 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB. If the chipset supports 4GB or more, not all of it may be accessible because of memory mapped I/O. 32bit OSes are typically limited to 3-3.5GB of RAM, but not because of the chipset - because of the limitations of a 32bit OS.

In this case, the chipset is limited to 2GB of RAM at most. So you're kind of stuck here.

ok.... in the Acer 5315 CPU upgrade theme it was stated this limitation is set 'cause of the Intel 960 chipset. I have the same laptop and have 3GB of DDR2 RAM.

well i have 2.5 gig or ram installed at the mo and it sems fine and ive ran a few programs that all say i have 2.5 installed so id have to belieave the 3 programs that i tried over the scanner at Crucial. my mistake in getting the 2 2 gig sticks :( ill just sell 1 and buy a 1 gb stick and just settle with 3 gig total
