I just got a new Acer laptop (5720-302G08Mi). The laptop is sometimes making a light clicking noise. This could be the harddisk, but not sure. Is this normal for this model?

Anyone experienced this before on this model?

i just bought a new 8920 last week too. and the first one i got had this weird clicking noise from either the HD or the LCD too but i had no idea if its much of a worried at that time, then i started to have a high pitch noise coming from the LCD while running it on battery mode. then after a restart the the LCD just went blank after the acer logo appear. i can see the HD is actually running cuase its loading vista and i can hear the sound of ivsta startup too. so i returned it to the retail shop i got it from and had them swapped me a new one :) the new runs perfectly fine without ANY clicking noise at all but the down side is the webcam has a straight thin line runing across it which the first 8920 i had b4 has no problem. bottom line .. i know i wont be buying another acer next time. nothing but problems and their technical support just sucks big time

    Hi.

Do you talk about TravelMate or Aspire?

It is the Aspire. I have used Error-checking from Vista and used SeaTools for checking the harddisk and the harddisk passed all the tests. Doesn't seem to be any problem, but there is still a low clicking noise every so often.

you mentioned SeaTools.. i assume you have a seagate HDD,, well from past knowledge and reading the Forums here,, i can tell you that Seagate HDDs have a tendency to "chatter" a bit... and unfortunately it seems quite normal..

I have TravelMate 5720G, hard disk is WD and there are clicks. It occurs mainly when brightness is at highest value, very rare under lower brightness. Another annoying thing - there are some weird noises from display again at full brightness, and after it hard disk clicks.

That occurs under Vista. There no such a thing under Linux. So, I think it's some kind of bug. I read about it in one German forum that TM 5720(G) has that problem, but not every model.
