Now I am not after any passwords or any thing but I think this is disgusting.
My wife has an on boot bios password and wanted to disable it. She asked me to do it because I work in IT so it shouldnt be a problem.
I logged in with her password. Went security, user password, Press enter, typed in existing one then new password blank and confirmed it with another blank password. Rebooted and now it prompts for a password and we are stuffed.

Is this me being stupid did I do some thing wrong is that not the way to do it ?
Its appauling. We had a customer in work whos laptop was sent away to be sorted because he had the same problem. At the time I thought he was bit silly but now I can see how it could happen

I can tell you know to fix this but I'd like an "OK" from a moderator. I don't want to break any rules here.

Well, email me what you're proposing to do, PixelAeo, and I'll let you know if it's OK or not.
You can email a forum member by clicking on their name to the left of their post, and clicking "Send (user) an email".

In the meantime, Terrydan, I suggest you call Acer Support and get their opinion on it.

Strange - I guess that's because PixelAeo hasn't set up his forum options to allow emails from other members, or maybe you haven't posted enough to get email privileges.
Did you try entering a blank password on boot-up?

OK, according to my user manual, in order to remove a BIOS password, you should change the "Supervisor Password" and "User Password" fields from "Set" to "Clear". Entering the blank password was definitely an oops.

Yes I have tried the blank one.
Having done a lot of reading on the net it seems to have happened to a lot of people over the years I am still completely baffled.
I am an engineer my self not that it makes me perfect but I am very careful with bios's and passwords for this very reason

Indeed - sounds like until I hear back from PixelAeo, your best bet is to give Acer a ring.

Ok thanks for your time much appreciated

mmmm I am thinking because I pressed enter it has put in the enter character what ever that maybe and its not \r :(

Well spoke to customer support they have no idea why it should do that but will sort it out for £48 quid
If a blank password wont work why does it let you set it in the first place

Resetting the bios password is easy as finding the BIOS battery. Sometimes it's easily accessibly behind a panel on the bottom or beneath your wireless card. This is the method advised in the HP service manual and is used for desktops as well.

    Good luck!
