hi guys finally took the plunge and bought the 5920g,overall impression is its ok,3dmark 03 score  seems ok 8600 ish,but when i play games like outrun 2006 on full settings fps are low,i thought a game like this would run a dream on this system, the graphics even pause at the end of the level, very anoying.
also games sometimes crash and go back to the desktop with the nti dvd maker software screen showing, absolute madness.
can anybody give me any help on what if anything i can do to improve performance,do i need to update any drivers if so which are the ones i need, any advice would be much appreciated

Nti cd maker showing? You must be accidentally touching the touch button next to the "right" direction key then (The last touch button below those glowing one).

163.44 driver seems like a stable driver.

Also, make sure that the system is in "maximum performance' mode.

The nti software launching was caused by you brushing the touch-sensitive "record" button on the side. You can adjust their sensitivity however.

Choose a driver from here and remember to download the "modded INF".

    Follow the direction: http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=11997

If you are using stock drivers, you are going to be disappointed. Although modded drivers do not increase the score significantly, I added 100+ points from stock to 163.44...the actual played performance in MUCH better. Less slowdowns....

Outrun 2006 should run fine, cause I saw a gameplayclip of this game on this laptop, and it ran very smooth.

i think i know what i did wrong ,i didnt read the instructions on the driver website correctly,i downloaded the driver package and the modded inf file put the inf file into the extracted driver file, then what i did was go into the driver file and clicked on setup.exe which installed the nvidea package,it seems like all i needed to do was update my driver from device manager.
ild like to have another go at updating my graphics driver but im scared that ill mess things up again,i feel very confident that i know what im doing now that ive read the instructions, what do you guys think i dont want to have to reboot again it took ages, should i be ok if i follow the right steps

hopefully I won't mess up your notebook again, but I didn't have any problem with the driver update following the instructions. In all honesty I still recommend you to update the driver. Some stable ones are 163.44 and 163.69. Anyway, just follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY then everything should be fine.

thanks patrick ,tried again and works fine now,god knows what i did before, gameplay seems a little better now,not done a 3d mark check yet but ill let you know, quick question are many games preset to run around 60fps?
it seems like a lot of my sega games run around this figure with some of the settings turned down, turn them up and the fps drops, turn aa on and ive got no chance.does this seem about right for the 8600gt?god i nearlly went for a laptop with a 8600gs,im well glad i didnt now ;)

I've got 3d Mark 2006 about 3890 on my slightly overclocked 5920. I use cooling pad with 3 fans fed by USB port but even without it the driver crashes only if you obstract the air flow. Congrads you've escaped getting 8600 gs! 3980 on 3d mark 2006 is not bad for 700 quid laptop and gaiming - trust me!

it's easy. just run 3d mark 2006 and compare your score with acer 5920 with 8600 gt. GS will give max 2800 and GT will give 3800 or even more. the same with games - frames/second rate is much lower on GS.

you sure you have your cpu running at full speed if you dont you will get limited fps while gaming

some one was only getting 30fps in f.e.a.r compared to everyone else getting 50-60fps just because vista was downclocking the cpu

Hey you're welcome to list all the issues and we can help you. I got most of my vista issues ironed out and hopefully all of them will be gone when MS finally releases SP1
