Hai friends.i hv acer 5920g 5 yrs old noebook.last year it got nvidea rebolled and worked ok till this time.again it failed and no rebolling got successs.i bought old but working nvidea card geforce 8600m chip 86-770-A2 ver 1.5(originally previous was ver 1.3)I replaced in notebook and it takes every time 6 restarts to load window 7 but without video...I hear only w7 welcome sound..later I came to know MODEM IS MISSING. Last repair tech guy lost that...so 6 times restarts always ...I tried ext.. monitor. fn+5/f5..replaced ram..dessemble assembled but never flashed bios.or vbios.i remember this laptop never gave video out when normal..my quests
1.do I need modem to to get video?6 restarts I understand. But I think it should video without modem..not sure.
2.do I need flash bios..vbios since another nvidia card I bought is working on other laptops..it has ver 1.5 but my original nvidia card had 1.3.
3.since w7 load I hear sound..does it mean bios is ok?
4.pl guide me to flash bios ..or vbios if need ..I need to do it blindly. ? Thx
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, with removed modem it takes 6 restarts before it boots normally. That's a lot of wear mainly on your HDD as well as the rest of the parts. Anyway once it boots normally it should display picture, so my guess is that your "new" GPU is defective as well.
-
Thx for reply..the new gpu is really not new but used and functional on other laptop..but it does not show any video out in my laptop. The bad thing is I cannt recheck it on other laptop. Can u confirm is my laptop bios is ok?
-
Since you can't tell which version of the BIOS you have, I can guess that it's a bit older than the latest available. It could be the reason for the unrecognized GPU, but the chances are low. Blind flashing on this particular model is not something you want to deal with, since most of the time it's not working and you could brick your laptop permanently. I'll repeat it, the success rate (on 5920G) is really low and there is no exact guide how to do it. So if you are still willing to give it go, look around and go ahead. There a couple, maybe more variants of how to do it (again on 5920G). It would be best to try the GPU in another notebook, but you can't so I'm out of options. Also, how comes your display out is not working? Which option have you tried - HDMI, VGA, S-Video, all? They MUST work! So maybe something was wrong in first place.

Ok.my acer 5920g work perfectly on external monitor but laptop screen is always white..can anyone tell Is modem required for video output in laptop inbuild display. ?.last tech guy missed modem so my laptop restarts 6 times automatically. ? That I can understand. Can I check lcd cable without changing it?is my inverter ok since I got white display?
-
You don't need modem, to get a picture on the internal screen. You can check if all the lines of the LVDS cable are connected to both ends with multimeter set to continuity. The inverter is working. I guess you need new vBIOS. From what kind of laptop is the "new" GPU?
-
I hv two graphic card one is original that was shiped with laptop other is taken from another laptop ..but both are working good but with external monitor..nvidea geforce 8600m gs chip 86-770-A2 .MOTHERBOARD bios ver 3811..but new available bios is 3813..I do not want upgrade bios unnecessary ..I do not know procedure to upgrade correctly..but I know uncorrected upgrades can damage machine permanently.
-
Boot in Windows, use the Phlash program supplied with the BIOS, reboot and that's it. It will back-up you current BIOS automatically. Of course there is always some risk. I'm not sure, but it sounds like both GPUs are faulty.
-
awadesh, have you updated the BIOS as triturbo recommended?
-
Not yet. I want to rule out all hardware issues first. Since its out of warranty ..I will take help of professional tech guy to see hardware issue...if that not resolve my problem..I will update bios as advised. Anyway I will put update here..thanks all of you friends.
pl can anyone tell me when my laptop was good I always heard one beep sound on power on..but it is missing now..what does it mean.? -
Sorry for let reply. I checked with other lcd and lcd cable.there is same result. .no video or image is seen in lcd.it means there is problem in sofware..bios most probably or any other prior to bois update should I try? Off course I get all normal display extetnally connected,..
-
My guess is that either something on the motherboard has been fried, or on the GPU itself. You can try with BIOS update, then a video BIOS, if you manage to find some. The best bet, though, is a new GPU, preferably ATi HD3650, or HD3470 if you don't want the performance.

thx sir,i will try then update..

Hello friends, I m not laptop technician, I checked lcd cable voltages as from other thread, can anyone confirm i checked correctly and voltages in lcd cable are faulty.
1).i removed lcd screen and inverter , battery ,wifi ,bluetooth .motherboard has 40 pin socket and connecting lcd flex/cable that has 30 pins but has wired only upto 20(actually 19 ,5th one is missing..not connected..as factory made).
2).i connected laptop adapter and external monitor too..I power on laptop and I get normal window in external.
3.)i checked voltage between pin 1 and pin 2=0 volt.
Pin1 and pin3=0 volt.
Pin1 and pin4=3.3v
Pin5 absent..
Pin1 and pin6=3.3v
Pin1 and pin7=3.3v
Pin 1 and rest of pins show no voltage.
I checked such because I read thread on notebookreview.com , how to upgrade lcd thread.
From there I came to know pin 2 and pin 3 supply should be 3.3v.pin4 should be VEEDD DOC 3.3V
PINS 1,10,13,16,19,22,25,28(actually no pins after 20) are grounded...I READ SUCH.
4)Next if I recheck without external screen connected and power on laptop I get every pins unstable voltages with respect to pin 1.
In my case pin 20(the last one) seem to be grounded too.
I do not know ...have I checked correctly or not .
If not then pl guide me to check properly voltages if possible -
It should be correct, so maybe the panel is gone. As stated previously, the back-light works (it is independent from the display circuity), and usually the panel lasts more than the back-light. It would be good to try with a new panel, but if there is a short, it could burn the new one as well.

Thx sir fr reply, actually that new display and lcd cable were taken just to check if any video is played or not ...i saw white screen again ,then after that new display and cable replaced in its own laptop and there everything was fine.all these was done lap technician in front of m theh he said something is bad in motherboard only he tried some voltages but couldn't find problem. I post such result on another forum and I was suggested as ....
check pin 1 LCDVCC of U1 if you get 3.3v. Without this voltage, you will get white screen. If pin 3 of U1 is high and you still don't have 3.3v, then replace this chip. It could also be that R10 is open, check that resistor too..
I replied the answer as I checked and posted...you saw, but I was not replied after long waiting..I dont know lcdvcc of U1...pin 3 of U1..but I saw on motherboard near lcd cable connector ..the chip with 6 leg named as U1 ..may be he means voltages here to check ..I don't know how ..also he mentioned the resistor 10..I saw R10 with label 000..
Sorry for my bad knowledge. I just repair household items, not laptop! -
Just like you did with the cable - turn it on, one pole to the ground (screw holes for example) and test with the other. It is usually marked on the chip which is the first leg. It means that this resistor is pass-through, it's not an actual resistor (000 means no resistance), test it with multimeter set to continuity on both sides of it.
acer 5920g modem missing, changed video card ..still no video
