i recently brought a acer 6920g from (can also check the spec)

    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Acer..._inch_HD_TFT_Display_LX.APQ0X.351/version.asp

i have only used this for work so far and been fine. but installed wow (world of warcraft) on it lately and have been having trouble with jumpy gameplay. will be running at 60-50 fps one min and suddenly go all the way down to 12-1 fps.

would appreceate if someone could shed some light on this prob. i have lowered game settings, upgraded gc drivers, disabled sound, mostly all that i found on internet and had no luck

    thank
    tom

I was in the same boat as you, tcstone, albeit with weaker specs.
TF2 seems to be cooperating with me finally.

Remove or stop the extra services running in the background, and check out the Vista Tips and Tweaks....

well i did that the standard mcfee that came with the laptop this was removed a little while back and i currnelty only have window firewall off and using avg as my anti virus.

i was worried it was a overheating problem but the cpu doesnt get about 45-50oc. but when the laptop power supply is plugged in the cpu clock meter is jumping about from 1ghz to the 2ghz

Yeah I use video drivers from laptopvideo2go and don't have any problems with games. But that low performance is...weird. I've got pretty good fps with WoW.
When you play WoW, is your laptop plugged in or on battery ?

Have no idea , i think it's GPU Drivers problem .. I have the 6920g with almost same specs (3gb ram instead of 4 and different GPU Ati HD3650) everything was working good. so try to download newest drivers from nvidia.com

I know this thread is old but the actual fix for wow players using this is to set "reduce input lag" under the vid options Turn off shadows, reduce your view distace to 50% or there abouts and set the game timing to "3" (cant remeber the command. Dont have your AA above 2xAA and undervolt your cpu a little. Resolution can be set to max for eye candy and its worth noting that lowers resoltions dont make much if any differance.

You will find that "reduce lag input" will reduce your FPS but the annoying glitches will go away :)

Cause: The Dual core CPU is the problem on this one but im still not sure on exactly what it is doing to cause this. I found that removing one of the cores stopps it but causes the CPU to get very hot so that was not really a fix.

Hi, a friend of mine who has the same laptop with a geforce 9500m has a problem with low fps with WoW.

She is running Vista premium 32 bits

I've seen her have 120 fps on MAX, and then it may randomly drop to 1-20 fps.

Last time I was with her, I tried severeal things, first I scanned her computer from crap, with CCleaner/spybot/other . I then removed her drivers and installed both from the official acer site, and I tried from laptopvideo2go. It helped for a while, but she is having the same problem again now..

Any suggestion except from what is posted? Could It be a cpu problem? She has a dual core 2.2 Ghz, I could try disable it, but I dont think thats a solution really..

Install RMClock, and check it while running the game. When the slowdown hits, flick back to RMClock.
Is the CPU being throttled? If so, it might be a thermal issue.
If so, keep RMClock and start undervolting (there's a guide here on NBR), or if you know what you're doing, try the BIOS upgrade for the 6920G. BIOS version 1.10 fixes whatever issues there are.

I have low fps when playing WoW with 6920g all the time. Low fps i mean under 20fps, it begins right away when i start wow. Also sounds, like music from winamp and WoWs sounds slows down and begind to chatter. CPU load is top, around 100%. Is this also thermal issued mentioned before or is this some otherkind issue. I thought if i would try install Windows XP if with it i could get some better performance, now i am running Vista 32-bit.

My dear, this is a very common error or problem for Acer Aspire 6920G.
To fix this problem, it is not easy.

    Main cause:
The CPU's intelligence think that the processor is overheated(actually it do not) and it begins to throttle it(throttle mean slow down ur processor to reduce heat-up).
Even you have a cooler to blow your laptop, it would throttle as well.

    Solution 1(easiest but dangerous):
Download BIOS 1.10 for your Acer Aspire 6920G from http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/ftp/ftp.html
It is a rar file. Extract all the files to a folder. I guess the guide(how to patch your bios) is included in the rar file.

*Patching of BIOS is very dangerous.
*Back-up your stuffs before doing it.

Some people sucessfully fix the problem using this solution. However, some did not.

    Solution 2(basically won't work):

You have your Acer ePower Management with your right?
When your laptop is throttling due to false sense of overheat during gaming,
Alt-Tab to your desktop, click Acer ePower Management.
Reduce the your CPU speed(basically to lowest) and click Apply.
After that, increase your CPU speed(to maximum) and click Apply. Close the Acer ePower Management.
Your processor will not be throttle(throttle mean slowdown to reduce heat up) again. You can enjoy the game.
However, if you quit your games and turn on your game again, you need to do the same thing all over again. If not, it may slowdown again.

    Solution 3(best solution):

You need to download RightMark Clock (RMClock).
It is very hard to explain it all over again.
I will provide the useful link for you to read yourself.
So far, this is the BEST solution and workable for almost everyone.

Official download link and guide for RMClock, http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml#rmclock

Guide on "how to use RMClock to solve this annoying slowdown processor problem",
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=374850
    Please do read all.

I am an user of Acer Aspire 6920G as well. I have v1.10 BIOS patched to my laptop. However, it can't solve this problem.
Tehsuigi(in this forum) sucessfully used v1.10 BIOS to fix this problem.
I use RMclock and it is very nice.
It wasn't just solve my problems and it lowers my laptop's processor temperature. All Hail RMCLOCK!

I know this thread is old, but don't update the Nvidia/GPU drivers from Acer's website. It is much better to update from NVIDIAs website, even if Nvidia tell you to update from Acers website.

    hello,

i'm writing for u because the Solution 3(best solution) didn´t work. With this i can now play 30 min max.

Tell me how i can install bios v1.10, please....

I call ACER and they say this is a problem with the game and they don´t solve anything. I don´t understand. Acer Suport don´t suport anything. This is my last ACER notebook. NEVER more. They only want to make business, after that they don´t give a f***. Sry the language, it´s desperation.

    My laptop: ACER 6920G ( why did i choose this..... :( )

Mind tell me every specification of your AS 6920G?
The 3rd solution always work unless you set something wrong.
The 3rd solution already been tested by many users and it works.

Lastly, I am using AS 6920G too. Regret? Yes! It is fate. Can't blame.
I am lucky too. Because I have a permanent FIX for my AS 6920G which make my AS 6920G won't throttle forever. This FIX can only be apply to the users who have same specification as I do. Yet, some other users without same specification can try it too. Have some users with different specification and even different model used my FIX and it works for them.
My special throttle AS 6920G FIX link, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393073
Please be apart of our complaint to Acer Company and post your complaint about this stupid THROTTLING problem in this link, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393073

    Hi, thx por our reply.

    My specification of 6920G:
    - Acer Aspire 6920G
    - SO: windows vista home premium, sp 1
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T8100 @ 2.10GHz
    - RAM: 2*2048MB DDR2
    - VIDEO: Nvidia GeForce 9500M GS 512MB to 1791MB
    - BIOS: v1.05
    - 320GB HDD

It's a fate ??... this's not fate... this's jooking whit their clients, but leaving that behind...

About my complaint i can´post it here because it was on the phone but after 10 mail i send them they only awser was, and i cote:

We ( acer suport ) don´t give suport to software problems.

I try to explain to them that this's a hardware problem but they don´t give a care. I think acer suport in Portugal is made by someone who only can open a book with the title: Acer Suport Manual ( problems with vista ).

I think i have the same acer notebook as you. How can i make mine works like ours. thans for or time, you are saving me. :)

Well, you're lucky 1. You have the same specification as I do. Cheer. My special FIX might able to help.
Don't forget to clean your laptop regularly(hardware).
DUST can increase temperature and causes throttle too.
My FIX can't 100% work if you CPU is filled completely with DUST.

Acer Support? Forget it. I lazy go to them unless really a freaking serious problems.
But if you have your warranty, they are really friendly while you calling them(my area seems friendly). I am not sure if the warranty finish. Yea. My warranty finish already. XD

Can u give a little help, i hav now finish download RMClock so everything is from the start, u say:

"Please do set RMclock to Maximal Performance(FID) with lowest voltage(VID) you can apply(without BSOD)." How ??

"For T8100 users, FID = 11.0x(it is actually 10.5x but RMclock does not have "0.5x" word, I explain like this might be easy for newbie) and VID = 0.925V"
    How ??

Sry about this. But in the other tuturial the owner show what to do whith picture. I look like a kid, need pictures. Thx for our time. :)

    Errrrr???
Can you get yourself boot into Windows(workable desktop or safe mode)?
I think the tweaks you did before isn't the culprit. If it is, it should be obvious right after you done the tweak.
    My guesses is:
    a.) Motherboard spoiled(fate?)
b.) Not enough voltage(Due to the undervolt tweak but it is impossible since RMclock is a software which only can function/work/affect your laptop if you start it after a boot up. This would mean RMClock is useless or non-functionable before you login to your workable windows/desktop).
c.) The registry tweak for RMclock(same impossible because you need RMclock to have startup after a boot up to do the trick works)
    d.) Virus infection

If you have the warranty, contact acer. Most likely is motherboard spoiled.
I have experienced same thing as you do before(many times) even without the undervolt or RMclock(that time I don't have and don't know have such a software). I press the Power button, the laptop boot up and shutdown after a few seconds. Then, I tried to push the Power button and it show windows did not shutdown properly kind of stuffs. I just select start windows normally.

And the link you said you can find is just a few topic below your acer 6920g low fps problem topic.
    Here is the link, http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=393073

thx for ur response. No, the screen is always black. i can´t see a thing. i don't think the problem is about RMClock. I use it about 2 weeks and i play hard and don't hav problems.

when i get to my city i will contact acer. Yes, i´m still have the warranty and i'm will speak with them. Once again, thx for everything. :)

You're safe. Warranty can help you out this time. Well, it does look like motherboard got KO-ed by unknown reason. Can't Power-On a laptop = Motherboard failure or maybe some wires/components get loose
Try more stuffs(experiments) if you're under warranty(make sure don't violate the warranty rules) and you can have warranty cover your hardware failure.
My cousin laptop have changed its motherboard 3 times due to motherboard failure too. Warranty covers it.

    HI TOM

I THINK i have found the solution for ya !!!

i have the same or had the same problem with my acer 6920g the system throttles gpu after arround 10 mins of game play in wow its dead easy to fix !!!
    1. press ctl alt and del
    2. go to task manager
    3. go to processes
    4.RIGHT click on wow.exe
    5. set priority to HIGH (setting it higher could cause your system to crash)

go back into game and enjoy .... (ps cooling plate here would help)

Undervolt the machine do really help. I undervolt mine to 1.0125 and its working fine. No throttling or watever at the moment. The temp reaches 50-55C max when full load.

    This is known as semi-fix.
Very common. Undervolt does not only fix the throttle/semi-fix it, it does help to prolong the notebook life and battery life(while not using AC). This is due to less electricity is used and less heat is produced.
