Hey,
Just recieved my intel 5300 wifi card through the post ready for the upgrade. good price on ebay so was a happy puppy.
Upgrade physically went semi well, the 4965agn that was fitted was a devil to get out. Seems like acer decided to get superman to tighten the two screws that hold the wifi card down. In the end the only solution was to remove the 2 pillers from the pcb(with pliers and brute force) and remove the card.
Windows xp fired up fine, no wifi connected popup. drivers were my first thought.
Checked device manager, code 10 on the device. tried new drivers, old driver sets, no progress.
Google search revealed that there seems to be a few versions of this card. Some ibm only, some non ibm hp.
Also there was a few links about the pcie 2 and pcie 1 compatiblity problems. But a pcie2 card should run at the pcie1 speeds when fitted to that slot, so that shouldnt be the problem.
Ive ordered a 2nd intel 5300, one that should be 'more' compatible..we will see. will post update on that when it arrives.
as of this point id say that the intel wifi 5300 does not play well with the acer 6920g.

When I had my 5920G, I bought a Intel 5100 and it was working good.

I know alot of people have other cards installed on different models of acers. Trying to get this running on a 6920g.
and yeah, theres not much/if any difference between the 5100 and the 4965 that was in it. Both of those cards use 2 mimo signals.
The 5300 uses 3x3 thats why i was going for that.
Still waiting for the new card, decided to try the half height version this time, and see if it works. So fingers crossed for when it finally arrives. -
After waiting nearly 40days for the Half height 5300AGN, I can confirm that it is fully working.
The card is giving me better signal levels and constant connections. Probably due to the 3 streams.
Id recommend it.
The card i have in is a 1.51 version.
Good luck to anyone else fitting it. -
for your info, the wi-fi card will work in either of the slots you have, (too late now i know) unless you have the tv in the other one already. but if you are working now then no problem. superman assembled mine also and used loctite
i have to say i have not noticed bad performance from the 4965 in mine anyway.
did you need a driver?
this one says for acer:
MIMO-3-802-11n-Intel-5300
