    Hey guys,

Just wanted to ask your opinions on a problem im having with my Acer 6920G, basically the network card is an Atheros AR2181, and ive been having problems with it since day 1.

Basically the drivers it came with (1.0.0.28) would cause my internet connection to "suffer" limited connectivity every 5 minutes or so which would srop download speeds to around 1 kb/s. I thought i should upgrade drivers to the latest which are the 1.0.0.38/9 drivers, i thought i had fixed the problem as for the first 10 minutes or so it was working fine, and then suddenly my pc froze and the screen went funny with lines running across the whole thing, as if it was an overheating issue.

To solve this i bought a USB network card, which works fine but takes up a USB slot and gives me slow download speed of around 20 - 100 kb/s compared to over 10 Mb/s in some cases with the Atheros.

Just wondered if anyone could help, i dont think this is a problem with just my laptop as a guy on my floor (at University) has exactly the same laptop and exactly the same problem.

    Thanks

    Will

I can't say I've ever used the LAN controller for long enough to know what's going on - I'm practically WiFi-only.

I've never had any problems with it. Using 1.0.0.38. Maybe uninstall the device drivers completely and retry? Else call/email Acer and let them know. I switch back from wired and wireless in my university daily without any issues.

maybe theres somthing in your place that its interfiering with your card causing it to crash a wireless phone o other wireless device can cause this problem maybe thats why your friend has the same problem, also try upgrading the firmware on your router i had that problem with my xbox adapter and when i upgraded the firmware on the router the problem was gone

I also have a similar problem when I try to connect to the Internet with an UTP CAT 5E cable. I'm currently using my username and password that my ISP gave me.
After I successfully connect and while I'm surfing/downloading something I get disconnected and could not connect again until I restart my machine. And after that I have the same problem... every 15 min or less with connection activated..
My network card model is : Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 Gigabit/Fast Ethernet
I'll try to search what's going on and I'll come back with further information.

Considering how low his CPU rating is in 3DMark06, I'd point to a CPU overheat causing the slowdown.
Do read the Undervolting Guide here on NBR.

yea - my suggestion - Stop playing games - :) or Use some drivers that are 100% capable of doing what you want. Also try some tweaking programs for your graphics card like RivaTunner and others. They are plenty. Always remember when you do a benchmark try to minimize the processes and services that are running on the background and of course with Vista 3d Game (OS), or Win 7 beta 3d Game(OS) you can get maybe some pluses. Maybe this will help.
