    Hi all,

beacuse myu 8400m gs died, i bought an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 MXM II 256MB DDR2 from ebay ( new ) as a replacement.

After putting it in, my system boots, i can see the white acer screen but after 30sec to a minute i just shuts down...

I cleaned the fans and heatsinks, applied the paste ok i think.

It doesnt seem to get too hot.

Has anyone any idea, bios flash maybe ???

try booting into safe mode. hold f8 while booting and then choose safe mode with networking. that way it will not load your old graphic drivers.

If you boot into windows then go to device manager and remove old nvidia if it is still there. try rebooting.

    Install new ati mobility drivers.

    hope this helps.

that didn't work thanks. its sort of working now, as long as i keep the backcover off. When the cover is on it seems its pushing the heatsink against the gpu causing it to malfunction. On my original 8400m gs there was something aluminum like around the corners. I dont have that for my ati card now. Could it be like something is short circuiting ?

You probably need a copper shim. The core is not making firm contact with the heatsink. (At least this helped with my HD4570.)

if i loosen the screws of the heatsink that is on my videocard and leave the cover of on the bottom of my laptop it works. when i try to tighten the screws or replace the cover my screen turns black, the laptop isnt shutting donw however.

Maybe i do need a copper shim but i think its the other way around. I think my heatsink is touching something else then just the core of my videocard and kind of shortcircuits or something...
