    hi !

i'm very interesting in the acer timelinex 3830TG.

i'm aware of the throttling cpu problem, still unsolved.

i would like to know when this problem occur ?

is it only during a high charge on video nvidia card ?
or only on with high CPU charge ?

i will use the notebook for running a virtual machine (linux and database application) which need 80-90% of the cpu and no need of the graphic card power. So i forecast to desable the nvidia and use only the core i5 video chipset graphic.

so , will the throttling occur in this case or not ?

    i hope not...

    thanks for your advice.

    Best regards

Why not just but a 3838T series. No Nvidia card, no throttling and cost less.

because the 3838T have no SSD and lower CPU whereas the 3830TG got both !

3830T seems a better option but to be honest this series is just useless.
When under load 3830T goes up to 90*C (CPU temp) and chassis temperature (at the bottom) reaches 50*C.
Add potential battery problems and you have a good reason not to buy Acer x830 series.

i also think about the Portegé r830 which have both SSD and higher CPU, moreover a so desirable mate screen but.......the price is twice the acer !

Check out what Asus has to offer. Their notebooks are usually a bit more expensive than Acers but not nearly as expensive as the Toshiba you've mentioned.
