    hi there

im new to these forums and this is my first post,im wondering if any1 can advise me on a problem ive got with my acer laptop ive had it around 3 months now but the issue has been ther since the day i bought it.
the model is the 1511 lmi (amd 64) and it was very stiff to open when i first bought it to the point that sometimes it made small cracking noises and creaked when opening,,after a couple of days the creaking dissapeared and a couple of days after that i noticed that the hinges had started developing small hairline cracks.

now roughly 3 months later im starting to panic becouse these cracks have now grown to the point where both hinges have them, and on 1 hinge theres a new crack appeared which is gonna cross over the existing crack which im sure will cause part of the plastic to fall away from the screens hinge.

i read somewhere that apparently this is a failure in all the 1510 series notebooks and i was wondering what i can do about it,the problem is ive been told (and have read) that acers customer support are not very supportive and theyle probably try and get out of fixing this defect,is there any truth in this please anyone?

any help would be appreciated please

    thnx in advance.

    mic.

    Micovwar,

Have you tried contacting Acer's support? If you can show them that the hinges are excessively tight and this caused the crack, they may be willing to repair them. Since the unit's only a few months old they might be more willing to look at the problem. You may also want to mention the issue you've read about on these notebooks. If no one calls and complains, they're never gonna do anything about it (no record of anyone having problems). They're just gonna assume that only a few people had problems with this unit, which could just be the users fault and not fix it. Try asking for a manager or even contact the Corporate offices and file a complaint if they brush you off.

I have an Acer Aspire 1350 with a 15" screen and I have an identical problem to you. My laptop is only about 4 months old and the also cracks appear to be getting worse.

I have not yet contacted acer but am going to do so tomorrow.

I have go the same problem. :( I have an Acer ASpire 3610. I got it last year for graduation. It began cracking about a month ago, and now the cracks are so bad I don't even close my laptop anymore. You can see in the side of the screen through one crack. Is there anything that can seal it up?

If it`s in Warranty get it repair by Acer.

If not try some Araldite Epoxy, But the Repair will not likely last long.

If the hinges are too tight.

    regards

    John.

PS. you can colour the Araldite, just mix some pen ink in, I filled a hole in my laptop lid with some.

I have a 10 month old aspire 9412 and last week the right hinge snapped and today I noticed a crack in the left hinge. The top has always been tight and difficult to open. I'm going to call customer support tomorrow and see what can be done. This seems to be a common problem.
