does it post at all or just sit there with a blank screen? I also assume that the bios you flashed was the right one for your laptop?
-
yep, right bios, (i think)seemed to flash it ok, when tho the blocks & everything, said needed restart, so i did now it just sits there blank screen, the onlyy thing that seems to move is internal cd drive trys to read, spins up, the h/drive lite flickers, then back to cd, it will do that all day long if i let ity, was hope to get crisis boot on to cd to see if it would load from there, but dont know how, can copy files over, but lost as fat as a auto exe bat or config sys goes,
the files i copied over are
1. BIOS.wph
2. PHLASH16.exe
3. MINIDOS (system file)
reading about it they say the phlash file should self boot?
but dont know if it will automaticaly start to losd the bios file, no way of telling with a blank screen , usb floppy no good led dont lite but cannot hear it start or start to read , have tried the internal floppy as well still no luck,
also have disconected h/drive/& cd drive to try and force it to go to floppy but it wont, only thing as i said it must see is the internal cd drive, cos thats the only thing which spins & lights?
any ideas?
steven -
I have a simple idea , that i followed it my self too.
I got on EBAY one new USB Floppy drive .
I did try to boot my system with USB stick and failed to do so .
The Bios clearly states , as Boot options Floppy - CD - HD .
I received my USB Floppy drive today , 11 days shipping from China ,
and a cost of 14.50 $ .
Yes it boot , yes i can do anything even Crisis REcovery diskette
Follow this path , do not get mad , your solution is a USB Floppy.
If you do not wish to buy , ask your friends if some one have one .
Take care .
. -
ok will do that, do you want to run thro the procedure with me as to what to do?
also would be a great help if you could email me a copy of the actual disc you used to reflash you bios with(if no an 1703sc can just change bios)
my email is
[email protected]
if there are problems with exe files just change them to .pdf i can change back when i recive
look forward to reciving & seeing if it works for me,
ps what laptop is yours,& what keys are you holding down to boot from usb, & for how long?did you diconect internal floppy?/cd drive/h/drive?
thanks
steven -
I am sorry , but i cannot help direct .
I just opened the way to you, to move forward.
Its your system , your job , your risk. -
You can try this:
1. Copy the right BIOS file to a pendrive (ONLY de BIOS file)
2. Remove the battery of your defect unit.
3. Plug the USB flash drive into USB port of the defect unit. (not necessary to be port 0)
4. Pull the AC adapter out,
5. Keep Press Fn+Esc and hold it, not release. then plug AC adapter in
6. Press power on button to boot the notebook, then, release release Fn+Esc and power key immediately, then fan will run in hight seed, usb led (if exists) will enlight, unit will reading and reading.
7. Wait 2~6 minute (the time it take is depends on variuos factors), During this period, LCD will show nothing, usb will working, Fan will run.
8. After finish the process. USB LED will off first, then Fan will stop, and notebook will be in off state. You have to turn notebook on by yourself.
9. Crisis process completeted. -
Hi Elbubi
got in late last night and read post did try but nothing,(just did not work) what laptop did you get this to work on?,the only thing that seems to want to work on this one when power on pressed is the intenal cd drive, spins up and looks like its reading ?,have used other combinations of buttons (windows + B , fn +B,esc + fn) but still just sits there,
will go over problem again:
1 flashed bios,
2.restart.
3. will NOT boot up (just hangs blank screen nothing working)
any other ideas ????
cannot understand kirlakost reluctance to share details??? know its at my risk, my problem, (would not be asking for help otherwise)and my job,
the answer is a bit like telling somebody you have run out of petrol (and walking away) tell them where the petrol station is !!
the laptop is not working, any help is welcomed, nothing is going to be held against anybody for sugestions to get it up and running again,so if you know something to try please let me know, directions as to how to do it please.
thanks to all that have given sugestions to me, sure there are plenty more out there just let me know, one of them may just work.
acer aspire (F^*ked Bios)1703sc. 1meg ram 80gig h/d wont boot blank screen -
Better idea has anybody got an aspire 170/1710 mothreboard (working) they want to get rid of? if so get in touch,
[email protected]
thanks -
I understand your situation, and believe me, I would not like to be there... As far as it concerns me, I would try to help you as much as I can, and I have no problems to share the little I know (very little I guess)
That procedure I gave you is the Crisis "generic", it should work in most Acer´s. I tried it on my 7720 and it does work. You can try contacting Acer to ask what crisis procedure should work on your specific model (good luck with that try though)
If you feel like your cd-drive is the only thing working, you can try this method through cd-drive:
This is known as a "BLIND FLASH" and is done with no screen working.
The procedure is as follows:
1 - Download the latest (or the version you are after) from the Acer website. (once you have gained access to a computer)
2 - Extract the files from the archive that are for the dos update.
3 - Next, write a small autoexec.bat file using notepad containing the file ".bat" that triggers the flashing under DOS mode. Make sure you save it as "autoexec.bat" and not as ".txt"
4 - Using nero express (or any cdr program that can create bootable cd's) start a new project to make a bootable disc.
5 - Put all the files from the bios archive (as explained in no3) and the autoexec.bat into the root of the new disc
6 - click "burn disc" and use the native boot image within nero. I used english US Boot Locale.
7 - Finalise the disc.
8 - Put disc in affected Laptop. (Remember, this will only work if your laptop will switch on, fan noise, lights etc.)
9 - Switch off Laptop and remove battery and AC/DC Power cable.
10 - Whilst holding down "Fn + Esc", plug in the power cable, and switch on the laptop but dont let go of the keys yet.
11 - Disc will begin to spin, fans will come on full speed, but no lights.
Release the buttons, wait a couple of seconds and press the buttons "Fn + Esc" again breifly, then wait for a good 5 - 10 mins.
12 - The laptop should shut down by itself, then once you switch it back on, it should recover itself and boot normally.
HOPE IT HELPS AND GOOD LUCK!!!! -
Ok Steven , read well ..
There no way to start BIOS Recovery , if your system was password protected ..
Only ACER can do that ..
Other way , any stolen laptop would be easily recovered that way .
2) I told you all ready the half truth , about the USB Floppy .
The other half , are that the special boot Floppy disk are ACER property.
I am a pro technician , that i respect my self and i respect and the work of the others , even ACER's .
You are a simple owner , and ACER will help you , in your problem , if the laptop are legally owned.
We do not teach laptop hacking in this forum . -
thanks will try that problem is how do you write a auto exe file?
the name of my bios flash is AS3C13.wph know its asking a lot, any chance you could write the auto exe bat file i need so I can just cut and paste it ?
would be a great help.
thanks
steven -
NOTE the laptop is legit was purchace via ebay,(working at the time item number 260274232585 ) was only after i flashed the bios it went daft.
Also as stated have been in touch with acer and they will sort it out at a stupid price, add to tha
1. stripping it down and post just the board
2. send the whole thing,(which I would have to do as no way could I strip it down (not that clever)) and with the wieght of it postage would be a fortune)
so that gives me
1. try and fix myself
2.get a motherboard and replace (an option i dont want to do)
3. seek help (which is what I am doing)
I am including this note for all to see that those who are and have helped are helping somebody with a genuine problem (and legit laptop) not helping with anything stolen
hope that puts paid to any doubts anybody may have
thanks again to all who have helped or are helping
steven -
I got my laptop from EBAY too .
I registered it, to ACER website , and got a customer code .
The point are to be properly informed !!
Thats all . -
ok so any chance you could writ that file for me , you have my email addy, so could send it there if you did not want to post?
steven -
ps forgot to mention email acer uk and asked then if they could sell me a pre programed bios for the b1703sc, not had a reply as yet , but bet the answer is no , prob because the laptop is an old discontinued one and quite frankly when you speak to them they know little or nothing about them , (to be frank the tec support there is about as much use as a chocolate teapot)you see thats the problem today its a throw away society (dont fix it replace it)
steven -
The Bios chip are soldered, not possible to exchange it.
Ask from ACER to send you the list of all their tech centers , near in your area.
Contact them , by phone first, to compare their repair prices.
Your problem its not simple , stop looking it that way.
When i make one repair, i get paid too , i need to eat.
At your story , i have nothing to do with it , forget the freeby and backdoor solutions , move forward and pay for your mistake as we all do. -
It sounds like the same problem I have with my Aspire 3680. I have tried and tried to reflash the bios, and no luck. And I had to buy a new 5315 from WalMart.
-
yep h4fl looks like thats the way i,m going to have to go
still nice to see there are some people out there who are willing to help
and then some who are looking for $$$$$$? would,nt have thought helping with writing an autoexc bat file would be taking food outa somebodys mouth,or looking for a backdoor solution, still ,guess thats life, personaly I would not of offerd any solutions, unless I was willing to see it tho. I was (and still do)thought that,s what these Forums were all about, sorting one anothers problems out if possible,Guess i was wrong (this case anyway) must say tho if i lived in greece, near him would have taken it in and paid him to get it sorted if he could ?,then i would have gone away happy, knowing i had put food on the table for him.i just object to payin the huge amount acer uk want,
so guess this end the thread unless there are any more sugestions
steven
ps
KiraKost dont bother with a reply, first it was slolen laptops, hacking, now When i make one repair, i get paid , i need to eat, forget the freeby and backdoor solutions , i honestly dont know what you are doing on this forum, drumming up paid work for information? gloating at others problems, or just letting people know how smart you are, I have read tho a lot of posts and not one person was pointing out they get paid for a repair by helping.
Think a lot of people will be able to see where your coming from now after reading your comments , i know I can.
love the top gun pic, what,s you handle? " PayCheque"
Thanks,for nothing

If your bios file has "wph" extension, I guess the Cd or Usb Drive method will not work, you can try if you want just copying the bios file to a cd and do the rest of the procedure I suggested you earlier.
Being your bios "wph", the only exit I know is the phoenix crisis procedure, and that can only be done under USB FLOPPY DISK.
I uploaded that program and instruction file for you here => http://www.mediafire.com/?emjojhmk4y0
As always, kind regards and good luck!!! -
thanks
hep welcomed and will try just that
steven -
There will be no more answers to your messages, by me , do not worry .

If you need food direct at your mouth ask mom to do that . -
now that i'm back i'll check and see if i can locate a recovery procedure for your model....
just hold tight and we'll see what can be done... -
if you want to help(unpaid) Help, if not go pester somebody else, I havent got the time for all this Big headed BS -
Dear members.
With my most humilty, I would like to advice you not to argue, it´s just a tremendous waste of time... You can do it by PM if you just can´t help it, at least it´s less offending for the rest of members, but it doesn´t make sense either...
This forum´s aim, IMHO, is to provide help and knowledge for those who need it, and to give us all the oportunity to help, get helped, and learn something new every day, but always within a kind and gentle enviroment.
TO BE GENTLE IT´S FREE, BUT IT "PAYS"... So, if you wanna "win", just be gentle.
Kind Regards to all. -
well put elbubi, and i understand exactly what you are saying....
as i've been reading thru the posts for the past 3 days i thought i was in some other Forum. -
Well i do not understand any of this .
I had take the obligation , to not help any one , by giving under the table software that does not belong to me .
Even if i have access to it !!
And i got flamed all ready from this user .
My wish are, No one to help him by any way , simple as that .
I do not sold out my promises , to play the good one around , or gain rep points.
The words that this user had say so far , are totally unacceptable .
All that i did was to defend, software rights - my promise - my pride - my honesty.
And i will keep to do that , no matter what . -
I have no intention of being drawn into a verbal exchange of words with you, I have not nor ever asked for Illegal under the counter software my posts are there for all to view, I would never ask a stranger to put his or hers job on the line for me, advice yes pirate or under the counter software NO!,
there are many users who have offerd help to me without thought of payment or anything else,to these users ,many many thanks, you are all a credit to this fourum,& i only hope I have the chance to return the favor.
sorry if I have offended anybody ,but you have to agree, If you are offerd help, you would be taken aback if you were asked for payment for it!!!
Kiriakost I ask only one thing ,Please go and Pester somebody else ,I dont need it & I dont want it........there are a great number of intelligent users helping me already ..............
Please no more quotes no replys,I personaly think this post should end now
so if there is a moderator out there please delete this post lets just get on with helping one another
