What is the Exact CPU you have in there now (front side bus, cache, model, etc.)

Run CPUID to find out - then let us know!

Why not a faster hard drive first. You'll get more bang there.

Hi chazman421, my aspire 1705smi has: P4 northwood 3.06 (478 Pin), L2 cache 512, 533 FSB. Memory is 512 pc2100 ddr sdram, nvidia geforce go5600 with 128mb ram, 120gb harddrive and a crappy mat****a dvdr drive :-(. Guys, on a side note, check out www.ajp.co.uk and see what you think about their new lappy, it deffo kicks bottom :), and i thought acer's 1804 was good.

I'm pretty sure you could put up to a 3.4GHz P4 in that laptop, seeing that it is a P4-M + 533MHz FSB. I don't see why you would want to upgrade the processor though, 3.06GHz is very fast! :p

Yes, that laptop is pretty nice (from the link). It is a rebadged Clevo, sold by of computer companies. It's huge, but immensley powerful!
