Hi
I have a problem with my acer aspire 1800 notebook, suddenly yesterday a pink vertical stripe appeared on the screen, is about 1px width and all screen height. I've tried applying pressure all over the screen but the stripe didn't go out, and I'm afraid more stripes could come.
is there any way to fix it without changing the LCD screen? because I've been told that a new LCD screen 17'' widescreen would cost me around 600 USD, with by the way I cannot afford. And the notebook is out of warranty![]()

Hello,
I have the same problem with an Acer Aspire 9500. I've had it for about a year and a half, and two days ago the 1 pixel vertical pink line appeared.
For me it is on the left side of the screen, about a quarter inch in, and is only on the desktop & folders (Windows XP Media). If I reduce the size of a folder I can move it to the right of the line.
I am going to re-format as soon as I can get all in order to be able to do so, and see what happens.
As it doesn't show over my browser, or other application windows I am hoping it is just an oddity that will go away after redoing the system.
Would like to know of any others with this.

I'm trying to repair the notebook by myself, I take out the screws and find out this number LP171WX2, seems I will order it at ebay and try to change by myself.
Does anybody knows if it comes with the backlight? or is only the screen?

both of these problems are related to the LCD panel, both of these units have glare LCD panels which seem prone to this type of failure; in both cases a new LCD panel is required.

Hello All!
I have the problem with the Acer Aspire 9500 series posted above. I've now got three vertical lines, one which is blue and two pink, the blue one can be seen over all applications.
I spoke to Robert Employee #73873 at Acer (254) 298-2646 who was condescending and abrupt (no surprise as I had a prior unpleasant and unresponsive experience with Acer support when I first purchased this piece of s**t), who told me it was my problem, but Acer could fix it for $400.00 +. He also told me that this was specific only to me, and not an inherent problem.
It does not matter to me that the system worked well for the time that it did, 1 1/2 years. That after spending $2500.00 on one of Acer's top of the line products at the time, I now have to spend approximately 20% of that to replace a key component (because of a problem that is inherent) to keep it going, makes me angrier than I can express here.
Was wondering if anyone knows if I can replace it with another type of lcd that isn't prone to this? And, any suggestions on where to repair it? I wouldn't trust Acer with replacing the battery, never mind the monitor!

I had the same problem recently. Whenever I used 3d programs or full screen 3d applications that exact pink line would appear. It is a problem with the Graphics card in the notebook.
I tried installing the latest drivers and the oldest drivers from Nvidia for my Geforce 4 card, and finally after no success I decided to get drivers from my card manufacturer.
In this case I used the MSI auto update facility that installed some "drivers?" for my card, which eradicated this issue on my pc.
In my case, the pink line appeared out of the blue, after many years of usage without trouble. What the MSI software did, I have no idea. But try getting drivers from the actual manufacturer of your specific card.
