hi, i have an old acer aspire 2930z, i have removed the windows & replaced it with knoppix as nothing worked very well, the screen was very dark & i could only see what was on the screen very faintly (not enough to work on) so i changed the invertor for the monitor, the problem i have now is it works but only with the lid very nearly closed & when i open it a little the whole screen goes black (same as the old way)
i guess it has something to do with sensor, trouble is i don't know where it is & need help in pin pointing it out so i can fix it.

    any advice greatly appreciated :)

It may be a loose connector, have you checked the display and inverter cables for flex?

If it was the sensor it would probably turn off as it was almost closed, not turn on.
