    Hi,

when i turn on my laptop(acer aspire 5100- 5674) nothing comes on the screen but the green (power)light on the laptop stays on.I can hear the fans working when i start the laptop.i don't think that it is a back light problem because you can't see anything even when you shine a torch at it.I tried connecting it to a external monitor but it still didn't work(although i could have made a mistake) To turn the laptop off i have to hold the power button and when it turns off there's a squeaky beep (quite long), there no beep when i start it up btw.Could this be a problem with the video card

Before this happened the screen on my laptop went white and there were black/grey lines on it.But it came on again after 3-4 hours but the same thing happened again.

Could you please tell me what the problem is.the laptop is less than 1 year old

    thank you

if its less than a year old don't play with it take it back, its still under warranty.

if you put an external monitor on the laptop try FN+F5 its switches the laptop screen off and external on give it a try.

Based on what you are describing it sounds like you your mainboard has failed, and it will need to be replaced. Even if it is just the video component that has failed you would still need to replace the entire mainboard as the graphics are made onto the mainboard.

I agree with hoggie if your notebook is less that 1 year old I would return it and use your warranty to get it repaired.

thanks for the reply. i will send to acer but i don't know what the serial number is. I've looked at the back of the laptop and also the back of the battery. There is a SNID number and theres a number above it but it doesn't say that it is the S/N or serial number.
