I thank you for the reply but I read in another post that all I had to do was go into cmos and change my sata config. After that windows xp installed perfectly.

Yes, you have set SATA to native mode, otherwise you will keep getting the blue screen of death. After that you are set! My parents are very happy with this laptop (they just needed it to surf the web, email, and skype), and they only paid $339 for it which included webcam, 2gigs of ram, cd/dvd burner, 160 hd, and AMD processor!!!

I uploaded the XP drivers for this model in case someone needs them:

    Good luck!

Hi, in setting it to IDE you lose all the advantages of AHCI. There is a way of changing that after XP is installed but personally I would have stayed with Vista..

Vista runs extremely slow on the system my parents got... Therefore, I wouldn't recommend it. After a full format and installing XP, this laptop is pretty decent.

The full specs of the lappy is here: http://microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0304256. It's cheaper if you buy it in the store and the sales tax is 1/2 of your regular state sale tax :D

Hi, Vista should have run fine with those specs, I've had it running ok with only 512mb ram. Without wantting to get into a Vista versus XP debate it might be that you didn't give it enough time to do its initial prefetch, indexing maintenance plus a couple of tweaks to the power settings to get it to its optimal performance...

My parents were complaining about some BSOD with Windows XP SP3 running... I was able to slipstream the correct SATA drivers and it works fine now. (No more BSOD) :D

    Therefore, my new recommendations are:
    1) Use F6 to install the correct SATA drivers
    2) Use nLite to slipstream the drivers into the operating system CD

    Good luck!
