i have searched and searched. there is no documentation that came with the laptop on this either . supposedly my laptop has some sort of card reader on the front bottom just to the right of the blue power light left of bottom center of the laptop. there is a piece of plastic over the card reader slot that will not budge. my cell used a card reader an you push the plastic thing in and it pops out. and you insert the card. on the laptop i cant move the plastic that covers the slot. im thinking there is NO cardreader there its just a dummy slot as i dont see a card reader in computer either. can someone shed some light on this ??? according to the catalog description there was supposed to be a card reader . no mention of it in the .PDF manual either. again this is the aspire 5517-9779

I know this is a little late, but there is a card reader in your Acer AS5517 - xxxx.
There is a dummy card in the slot and you have to push it very hard to get it to pop out. If you press it with some force, you will notice that it springs in and then ejects the card. I've also noticed that you have to insert a card just right to get it to go in. When using an SD card, it almost seemed as if it wasn't going to fit, but I finally got it to work.
