I have a Acer aspire 5742 i5 processor. my laptop screen wouldn't work when i turned it on so i checked screen with another screen that would work but it wouldn't work also. i also though it was a motherboard issue but when i purched a new motherboard it didn't solve the problem. everytime when i start it up the screen would be black and everything would power on but the laptop would only last for about 2 mins or so and then shut down. i was wondering if the problem could be the cpu?

CPU being the culprit is extremely unlikely.
Did you check RAM and HDD?

Also what happens if you do not connect internal screen at all (disconnect the cable too) and start the notebook with an external screen connected?
