    Hello everyone,

    I just bought my wife this laptop and I'm having 2 conflicts with it.

    The first is I am trying to install symantec endpoint protection. When I click on setup and try to install it, it says that there is pending changes and that I need to restart windows before I can install. No matter how many times I restart it, I always get this message.

    The second conflict is she has a sprint sierra wireless broadband card. It will install fine but when we shutdown the laptop and turn it back on the keyboard and mouse are frozen and we need to hit the power button to turn it off and restore the system.

    I bought the laptop from newegg.com so I can not get a refund only exchange it for another one if it's defective. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    have you updated the BIOS?? that can resolve some conflicts ad they are discovered and pached by the manufacturer...

    the symantec software installation,, first i would make sure i had all the windows updates installed... even most of the OPTIONAL and DRIVER UPDATES that windows update detects under CUSTOM (not just express)

    if ENDPOINT is a security suite as in AV/FW/SW type stuff.... it would be wise to make sure that all the ACER INSTALLED AV and INET SECURITY stuff is not only stopped from running,, THEY SHOULD BE REMOVED thru the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS part of control pannel....

    maybe after installing all the updates and then removing the security software... create a RESTORE POINT so you can boot into safe mode and then quickly return the PC to this state if future problems are encountered

    then attempt the Symstec software install,,, maybe with a newer BIOS and all the new updated windows files along with removing the security software may just have changed the OS enough to allow the software to correctly install...

    if it fails... just hit F5 at the ACER boot screen,, and you should be prompted to choose an option... choose SAFE MODE only!!! then go to the system restore utility... (use windows help and support to find the system restore utility if you need more info on it)

    that should allow you to get the PC back up and running quicker than restoring the system...

    newest bios files are found at....
    http://support.acer-euro.com
    just check under drivers and downloads or the FTP link either one will lead you to the bios and other files for your model

    Thanks for the reply bigozone. I will give that a try. Do you have any suggestions for the sprint broadband card?

    well,, i'd start by contacting SPRINT and seeing if they are aware of the incompatiblity, and ask if there is a fix or if they are working on one,,, if not ask about an alternate card that can exchange your current WIFI card for...

    you can also try contacting acer to see if they might have a fix in the works,,
    it's obvious that either the acer laptop's cardbus implementation or the SPRINT wifi card doesn't adheare to the standards for cardbus accessories... because if both parts did, then you wouldn't be having the problem...

    make a little noise and see which company is willing to bend and help accomidate you.

    I have solved one of my problems. I am now able to install symantec endpoint. Just thought I would post the solution in case anyone else has the same problem.

    * Click Start >> Run
    * Enter regedit
    * Click OK
    * Locate the following registry key and rename it to PendingFileRenameOperations2
    o HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\PendingFileRenameOperations
    * Run the installer again

    Still trying to fix the broadband card.
