    Acer Aspire 7730 584G16Mn System bios v0.3509

    Hi

further to my reply in an earlier thread.

I want to run xp on this pre-installed vista home basic laptop and to cut a long story short have installed xp in Sata Mode: Ide because all the other methods tried ie:nlite slipstreaming have not worked for me

Now I have xp working I would like to enable AHCI mode in the bios but the various tutorials Ive looked at so far have been unsuccessful.

Has anyone who has this model Aspire 7730 been successful in this procedure or knows a way that has worked for others?

I repeat that this should be a procedure that is Aspire 7730 specific as I feel this is the key.

    Thanx

The latest try was I extracted the files from IATA87enu.exe and slipstreamed them.

The process seemed to work correctly watching nlite at work.

I have to say that to my lay observation xp in the 'ide' mode seems to be working ok (early days)

I've loaded win 7 beta on the vista partition and that seems also to be working ok

Just what difference practically does using the 'ide' over 'ahci' mode make anyways?

I've read various accounts that generally suggest a lessening of performance of the hdd

Did you try service pack 3? It has the same drivers.

Hi! I've just finished installing the AHCI drivers on my AS7730G. I followed the procedure from here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992 and downloaded the Lenovo version of the drivers (they're the same drivers, oly difference these I was able to install).
Just search the thread for "Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver for Windows XP".
    Best of luck,
    xsx

I'm gonna run with xp in ide mode as this seems a bit of a black art to me.

Probably doing some fundamental thing wrong here but cannot get this procedure right

    Thanx for the replies
