hi l have an acer aspire 7736G and have started getting warnings of SMART failure predicted on hard disc O:WDC WD5000BEVT22ZATO-(PM)
immediately back up your data and replace your hard drive.

l think l could remove the old hard drive, and fit a new one, but that's about it, how do l start my laptop after l have done this, is there any special bios settings, or software l have to use to make it work again, or is not to difficult as l think it is.
also could l upgrade the hard drive from the original 500gb
to a 1tb or even 2tb is this possible.
    thanks for any help possible.

I don't think 2TB units are available in 2.5" size but you can upgrade to 1TB.
Your current drive has a hidden partition- you can either clone the drive or if that's too much trouble- use installed eRecovery software to burn recovery DVDs then swap drives and use DVDs to recover Windows again.

Being lazy I'd go for the second method.
You need to back-up your data from the first drive on your own though.

    EDIT: Please don't cross-post.

Uh, yeah. you have to set the bios to boot from CD, then you will need OS discs, you will hav to install drivers, updates, software and antivirus. the way you ask the question makes me think it will be more difficult than you think it is.

the hard drive you would need is the WD10JPVT

    Hey man.

You need to back up all your important data or create an image of your drive using imaging software.

I would then report it to Acer or the people you got it from and ask if you can just send the HDD back for another one.
