Hi all, I have a acer aspire 5112 with a AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50 CPU. I would like to upgrade it, and I have found that the Turion series goes up to Turion X2 Ultra ZM-86. I have read that even though they are both designed for s1 type of slot, ultra has a different output pin.

My question is, can I still be able to exchange my tl-50 with zm-80 or 86, or what is the highest CPU on the ladder that I can go up to?

    Thanks.

You should be able to just drop a TL-68 in there. That gets you to dual 2.3GHz range. I replaced my son's TF20 with a TL-58 back in the day when they were cheap and it had no problem. The TDP of the TL-68 is only 35W, the TL-50 is 32W, so you should be ok with the power draw.
