Hi, I also have the Acre Crystal eye and to be quite honest its not that great, it does do the job ok but not brill.
What I find is that you have to mess around with the settings, you will see the little cog shape when you open up the camera. Just try adjusting settings till you get the pic thats right for you.
Also natural light plays a major part as well, if it's too dark you will get a picture that you describe, all dark and fuzzy like. You could try turning a light on, this may help, it certainly makes it less dark.
Sometimes the quality is still not too great but like I said it just takes a little adjustment of settings.

    Hope this was useful. :)

Also carefully clean the lens. Dust and fingerprints do not improve the picture quality :)

If the camera did not come with your computer, try uninstalling it then reinstalling it as it may not have installed properly.
In fact I would also try to reinstall the drivers if it is an in-built camera.
I'm not too sure if the latter would work, but maybe someone else here would know.
