I brought my acer aspire 1522WLMi out of hibernation this morning and the windows login screen appeared but quickly faded away again. On closer inspection and a few reboots I discovered that I could faintly see everything on the screen if I leaned in close, so I figured it was a hardware problem. I plugged in an external monitor (which is allowing me to write this from my laptop) and the clone monitor functions worked perfectly, except of course no image on the lappie.
I checked up on the web an apparently the most common cause of this is an inverter failure in the LCD. Which of course means no power is going to the bulb backlighting the LCD screen of the laptop. I'm almost sure this is the problem (the laptop is very new, no more than 3 months old) and was wandering if anyone could point me to the inverter model number for my particular model of laptop? I would rather replace it myself then have it sent off, as while it is still under warranty I cannot wait for amount of time it takes for these things to get fixed.
If anyone has any advice on where I could find the part-number or indeed whether it could be another problem I would be greatful to hear from you!

This problem should be related to the backlight, either the inverter is dead and not supplying power to the backlight, or the backlight is dead.

Since this unit is under warranty, ship it to Acer for repair. Acer will not give you an inverter/LCD for you to repair yourself. The only way to get it is to actually buy the inverter/LCD. That totally negates the purpose of a warranty.

Since the problem is not 100% cut & dry as being only 1 thing, I'd send it in for service. You may also want to check in your area to see if it has a 2hr drop-off repair service. In Canada, they used to have this 2hr drop-off service. After contacting Acer support, you drop your unit off at Acer's repair facility, wait 2hrs and you'll get your unit back repaired. If they have it in your area, that may be your best option.
