    any thoughts on this laptop?

I was thinking of buying the i5 version for about 1025$ usd.

    Is this a bad deal?

I was also thinking about going for a lenovo u410 i5 for 870$ usd.

It's not bad although it gets rather hot under load and LCD is of undistinguished quality.

Gigabyte is infamous for its build quality.
I didn't check that one but I would still avoid it until proven otherwise.

But also good for a consumer. Screen seems to be a distinct advantage of Gigabyte. It might be something that will affect my decision anyway...

Wait to see what the Dell XPS 14 looks like when its released later this month. HD+ bright high contrast display and GT 6xxM GPU (still waiting to hear which one). It is at least worth a look and should be decently priced with a typical Dell coupon.
