Hi,
i was wondering can I put a pentium M processor into my travelmate with a celeron m? I found a 2.0 g pentium m s479 processor and its the same socket and specs as the celron. also will this notebook support 2 gigs of ram?

Nobody has any idea on this?

You will get the right advise there. Ask nicely and I am sure one of the experts will research your MB, FSB etc. and provide reliable and accurate feedback.

Kojack, which Pentium did you find to replace your Celeron M?
Also, does anyone know how to speed up the cpu in PheonixBIOS? I can't find any options for changing the cpu speed. I'm using the Celeron M 1.30GHz and would like to try to do something with it while I search for the replacement. I've been trying to find out what the best (meaning the fastest) cpu is for this TravelMate 2300 (2304).
And finally, is it possible to upgrade the graphics from Intel Extreme Graphics 2 to a better card in this laptop? Audio too...
Thanks for your consideration, fellas. -
TG_Boleyn my other acer notebook is a travelmate 2303wlmi so I guess I can answer your questions.
1) The BIOS of OEM notebooks are usually quite simple therefore there is no way to speed up the processor from inside the BIOS. The usual way that it is done is via overclocking programs that run from inside windows like clockgen. All you need to do find is the PLL number for the motherboard and then increase the clockspeed. My travelmate has a celeron M 340 1.5ghz and I used to push it to 1.695ghz before it became unstable.
2)It is not possible to upgrade the graphics on your notebook (Intel Extreme Graphics 2) as this is an integrated graphics processor and is made onto the motherboard and therefore the only way to upgrade it would be to change the entire motherboard itself, so you are stuck with what you have when it comes to graphics. This is not only the case with integrated graphics cards but also 99.8% of current notebooks; even if they have dedicated graphics cards they cannot be upgraded, only a few select notebooks on the market today have the ability to upgrade their graphics.
3)Audio cannot be upgraded either because that component is made onto the motherboard and therefore cannot be replaced without replacing the entire motherboard.
I know all of this sounds very restrictive but with modern notebooks the only real components that can be upgraded are: processor, memory, hard drive, optical drive and PCI wireless and bluetooth cards. That is pretty much it.
As for the fastest Pentium M that you can fit to the travelmate 2300, I am not sure. -
Its the intel i852gm
processor is the celeron m 340. s 479.
what can i drop in here.
and what is max ram that can go in as well... -
too find out what model mother board you have, and get a true idea what you can and can't do.
check to see if you have a white sticker with a number and bar code on the top ram slot.this when you google it will tell you all you need to know about your mother board.
I found this out by chance when i upgraded my ram.
EDIT: and so far it has been spot on with three of my laptops all acer. -
Ok,
I will look when i get home. it should tell me what processors and how much ram i can slap in this?
acer travelmate 2300 processor upgrade?
