i cant really describe it, but the "tuba" on my 6920G makes some really nasty noises when i turn the volume up...
im not sure if this is normal or not, if the tubas just not able to handle the loud bass or something... could someone try it out and see if theirs makes weird noises as well?

im using 6.0.1.5582 drivers, would updating to the 6.0.5618 drivers help?
edit: selecting the "bass management" enhancement seems to have gotten rid of the weird noises, but im not sure the tuba is even on anymore now.... -
Remember, the Tuba isn't really a subwoofer - it's more of a mid-end booster.
Monkey around with the "Internal Subwoofer" volume level in Windows' sound options to test if it's working. Your speakers should sound like garbage earphones when the level's 0. -
it just seems to be unable to play the bass properly with the volume turned up (although this seems to happen only on 5.1-mode) -
Have you updated the drivers?
When you turn it up, does it buzz, or just not work properly? If so, you may have blown it or it may be faulty. My Dell subwoofer was faulty and every time I played music or something it would make nasty sounds, and buzz, and it would just not sound correct. If you ring Acer, and tell them that your subwoofer is broken or not making sound properly, they may fix it or replace it. -
im not really sure how to describe the noise... i tried recording it but nothing i used would pick it up
if i had to describe the sound.... i would say it's "croaky"
again im not really sure if the tuba is broken or if its supposed to be unable to produce these heavier sounds properly at high volumes (on some songs the effect is far worse, and in some songs the tuba actually sounds pretty good)
for example, i have one song where the effect is the most noticeable, using a pair of headphones i can tell that the bass on this song is particularly high compared to the songs where the tuba works fine
would it be okay for me to upload a portion of the song where this happens for you guys to test out on your tubas?
edit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKa3ANL0HlM when i listen to this video i get the effect (keep in mind this only happens at high volumes)
but on this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xobTU-Fzzg the tuba sounds good (not that great for a subwoofer but i say it sounds good because the tuba isn't really a subwoofer) -
Also, does the laptop reverberate with some songs more than others? It's possible that different frequencies can cause the laptop to vibrate, causing this nasty sound you described. -
i vote for a blown woofer. time for a new speaker set.
-
When you restart your computer after you hear that sound, does it work normally again?
-
restarting doesn't seem to fix it
i dunno, i only started to notice this after i upgraded to windows 7 professional
although i dont think ive ever jacked up the volume to max before i upgraded -
I have exactly the same problem.. It is made worse when installing codec lite pack - I had to unistall the codecs and also do a restore on the sound driver to fix it. .. still plays up under certain sounds- I just turn the sub down to 50% and bass management @ 2. I think there is a codec boosting certain bass frequency's a little much for sub - I have no problems during games at all, only some movies and music.
Only way I can describe it is as if there is a a piece of thin plastic vibrating on the speaker - disorted and almost sounds blown.
Try unistalling any codecs or resetting them if you can see if that helps.

Have you tried with an external 2.1/5.1/7.1 set just to see if it's the drivers?
