sorry for the dumb question, but with the new sandybridge mobile systems coming out now, i only see 13"+ timelineX models getting a refresh, but not the 11" models which uses the UM processors

i was wondering if anybody has any news regarding a 11" timelineX sandybridge refresh? thanks

EDIT: I have no idea, I thought you were just referring to 11 inch laptops in general...

well, any similar laptops of that size (below 12 non-inclusive) with a battery life what would match timelineX's and a sandybridge platform, im all ears regardless of brand

well then your in luck :D, I wouldn't worry about it only being a integrated solution. All of the MXXX lines have and will continue to have a dedicated GPU at least in addition to an integrated card.

Alienware M11x getting Sandy Bridge in early April - TechSpot

the new M11x's also have optimus technology, so I think your looking at getting 6-8hour battery life on the intergrated GPU, then it has the GPU/processing power if you want some media

thanks for the suggestion, and i have myself to blame too for not explaining myself clearly......but if i remember correctly the alienware 11x are quite heavy compared to the lightness of 11" timeline series, and i will very much prefer the latter

and plus, i am a bit worried about the cooling system with the new 11x running what appears to be a normal mobile cpu, as supposed to using CULV variants (such as the SU-prefix and UM-suffix cpus) which is typical in ultra portables. i guess a more accurate and more general question is, does sandybridge offer CULV variants?

my gaming needs are not very high, and i think an intergrated solution might be sufficient for me (i am a ex-1810T owner, and 4500MHD was able to handle most of my light gaming needs). if i were to go for a dedicated/switchable gpu solution i think i would prefer a 13" model (in this case, 3820/3830 or the sony SB......or if i have a crap load of money to blow, sony Z)

but thanks anyways, it's good to know what other alternatives are there in the horizon

Yes no problem, I didn't really realize what exactly you needed/wanted. But best of luck, I'm sure within the next 6 months many laptops that are viable choices for you will sprout up. If not a whole new more powerful CPU line that uses less energy and puts out less heat!!!! Lol

    there is the:

    *samsung series 9

    *lenovo thinkpad x220

*a refresh for the mba is probably on the making

ps: the m11x still uses a lv processor->i5-2537M see the strange last number, 7? that is the lv mark, any number that wont end with a 0, is a lv cpu

The new SB m11x still uses ULV's, and I'd expect an Acer or Gateway branded 11.6" to show up by summer.
