    Hi,

my father has bought an Acer Aspire 1414WLMi, and is having some really annoying problems with it. First of all, there's an error message that is being displayed by the BIOS code on almost every boot:

    Mouse initialized
    ERROR
Resource conflict - PCI Network Controller or Motherboard
    Bus: 02, Device: 04, Function: 00

After this, in Windows XP I sometimes get an "unknown device" in device manager or, like now, an exclamation mark on the icon for the wireless card, which we are not using. Despite the warning about the network controller, the network connection works just fine. The problem is the system is very unpredictable, freezing every now and then, some time Windows doesn't even start... As a last option I'll try a reinstall, but the BIOS message suggests a hardware problem. I've googled for this message, didn't find anything, is this error so obscure, or...?

The situation is that the laptop as bought in Finland, but my father lives in Romania, so we can't take it to the guys we bought it from; I'm looking for some companies that could help us here, but I would be curious if anybody else encountered this before, and if they managed to solve it.

How about a bios update? Can Acer provide any assistance? Windows update can sometimes find missing drivers.

Hi and thank for answering, at least the european support site ( http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_1410.html) lists my current BIOS revision (3A06) as the last one. I checked the ftp site from one of the sticky threads and the aspire1410 directory was redirecting me to aspire1680; than one had a 3a10 version, but I'm not sure if it's the same BIOS - if it is, then the above site is out of date.

Funnily enough, acer's ftp site ( ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com) seems to be down.

I'm thinking of also testing the memory, since at least some of the symptoms look like they could be caused by bad memory, too.

Acer warranties are international if there is a service center there. They should take a look at it if it is still under warranty.
