I have a aspire 3000 that i have had a little over a year.....it has been used very little.
Tonight i burned a dvd to backup some mp3's.....then since i haven't used it in a while...i decided to go to windows update.
It was in the process of downloading and verifying the 2nd of 5 updates and the notebook froze up.
I could not move the cursor on screen and it was just froze up on the windows update page.

So all i could do was press the power button in for a hard reboot.
When it rebooted i had no screen.....nothing no post or bios screen just a blank screen like there was no power to it....the notebook had power because the lights were on and i could here the drives running.

I tried removing and replacing the battery running on ac power.....i also tried hooking it up to external monitor still no screen.

If anybody can give me some suggestions it would be appreciated

It seems like the Windows files have been corrupted, and they can't ork properly. If you have a Recovery disc, then you can recover the notebook. It will invlove a format, so you will loose any data that you had stored on the notebook. Hope this helps.

I am unable to set the dvd drive as the bootable drive...to install windows from.........because there is no screen to access the bios startup menu.

The screen remains blank (no power) when i start machine.

Thats strange. A windows update even a corruption, shouldn't affact the hardware. Have you any warranty on the machine. If so, that would be the best way to go abut things. If a blandk screen is present, then there is very little that can be done, because no options are available.

if there is not warrenty you wil have to spend a little money to get the bios reflashed onto the motherboard.

I do not believe the windows update did it because post screen comes before windows loads from harddisc.

I also do not see how bios could be corrupt because i was not flashing the bios when it happened.

No unfortunately warranty expired it 16 months old.

check to see if there's a disk in the cd/dvd drive

I thought I had lost everything one time, because nothing would come up for me on my Aspire 3000. Then I took the DVD out of the drive and It worked again.
