    Hi everyone,

As I mentioned in the title, I bought a new aspire 3610 couple of weeks ago and just today I wiped off the HD and installed my copy of XP Pro. I was surprised when I saw that I am not able to put my computer in hibernate/standby mode. If I go Start>TurnOff, the window that shows up has the standby option unavailable. In Help and Support it said that it means that my hardware is not able to hibernate. I was even more surprised when I went to BIOS and didn't find either ACPI or APM power management feature.

Before starting this installation I was able to hibernate computer without any problems. What gives?

    Thanks for your help.
    Frankie

Right click your desktop > Properties > Screensaver > Power > Hibernate

    Enable it.

Thanks for reply. There is no option "hibernate" when I do that.

That's the first thing I tried. There is not much to mess with. The Power Buttons menu 'When I close the lid of my protable computer' has only one option : Do nothing. I am really buffled herre: stand by worked flawlessly before this reinstallation, which I am already regreting.

Edit: I tried installing acer's power management software too. It didn't work, I knew it wouldn't. That software is just a frontend for the power management, if I am not mistaken.

    admlam,

can you do me a favor and take a look in your bios. I am assuming you have the same computer as I do. Just see if there is a enable ACPI or enable APM option. I don't have it in my bios.
