how do i boot to the hidden partition? i started the recovery from
my recovery dvd but got error:
restore failed - reason 0xa000000e.
click ok to restart the computer
how do i get around this? do i need the partitions to still be in the
same configuration they were when i got it? i've changed them since
then but still have the hidden partition intact. if i do need the
partition structure to match the original, can someone post that
structure so i can rebuild it?
thanks,
BabaG

No you dont need the partition. As long as you have the backup dvds and they are in working order, just boot of the dvd drive with them inside. That's all you need to do.

if you still have the hidden partition try to press Alt + F10 while booting (the screen while big Acer appear) if it doesn't work then you can't restore it
once it gone it gone -
thanks adinu. that's what failed. how do i get around that?
and now i've just tried booting to the hidden partition. it
starts but i get the same failure with 0xa0000003 -
The C: Partition has to be Fat32! Do not forget!

tomtaylor, interesting. will reformat and try again. would have
expected recovery to take care of that.
new info:
deleted the linux partitions and reformatted to fat32. the
recovery is currently in progress, and from the dvd, not the
recovery partition. the process failed before even starting the
actual recovery before the reformat so this is a good sign.
will update again with success or failure.
ok. here;s the update:
the recovery seemed to go well, running all the way through
both dvd's. on rebooting, however, the process stalled
displaying the old linux grub loader with an error, error 22,
and freezing the system at the beginning of the boot process.
presumably that error has to do with there being no linux
on the system any more. sounds like this is now an mbr
problem and a repair of the mbr is needed. not sure how to
go about this.

ok, here's the latest:
the linux grub bootloader has taken over the system's boot process
as of my test install of linux. in order to fix this, i have to run
bootrec.exe from the vista recovery console on the original vista
disk. that's right, the one i didn't get because i got a recovery
hidden partition.
anyone know how to get around this catch (ironically named 'error 22')?
thanks,

Try "fdisk /MBR" from a boot disk. Even a Dos5 should work ;-).
Do you have a Vista Update Disk to Ultimate? These disks are also bootable!
Tom -
had the same problem myself yesterday.
remove any discs from drive, restart your computer, as soon as u see the white acer page, and you need to be quick, press alt + F10.
mine did a full factory restore and never asked for the disc, only took 30 mins.
good luck

My story is more sad then all of yours. I formatted my acer 5102, and i also had 2 recovery cds. However my computer stopped when the process was at 98%.
After looking into what caused the problem, i discovered that my cd was scratched. Now I can not restore it back to all the normal factory settings. I installed xp, and downloaded the drivers manually from the internet, but after installing everything I noticed that it was not as good as it was before. Then i figured out that there was a backup of these recovery cds on my hardrive, and were saved as a partition. I found that partition but when i reboot my computer and press F + 10, it does not work.
some one please tell me what to do next, and any ideas why the F + 10 does not work? I already tried going to the bios and making sure that the setting to boot of the hidden partition is enabled. PS, if anyone has this acer 5102wlmi (aspire 5100 series laptop) please send me the second last file on your second recovery cd. It is called 90EA5110.067. If anyone has that please send it to my email. My addy is [email protected]. I will greatly appreciate it and this will solve all my problems.

I just had the same problem with my aspire 5100 if i try to restore from the DVD's i get an error when the process is about to finish... and for some reason hitting alt+F10 wont work for my... even if I enable the D2D recovery option... but well I did this... I installed kubuntu 7.04 it sets grub and grub recognizes the recovery partiton as a Windows 2k or some like that at the booting menu... while it is a risk to leave this option you can set up a password to avoid any other from restoring your system... btw... the restore is way a lot faster if you do it D2D
aspire 5100 - recovery failed
