I have an acer aspire 6930z with a bluetooth button but no hardware installed, though the software is installed. I have bought a bluetooth dongle and installed it on my desktop running xp everything works OK. Installed it on my laptop but it only partly works with the pre-installed software. I don't know how to remove the installed software. It does say in the installation instructions that any old bluetooth software should be removed first. Would appreciate any help.

remove any widcomm software in add/remove programs. then install your dongle. Note: Windows does have it's own bluetooth stack, but you won't need to uninstall that.

Hi techiediva (forgot to say laptop running Vista) I did what you suggested then pluged in the Dongle and my phone has found my computer but the computer has not found the phone. The bluetooth settings on the phone are
Activation on. Phone visibility on. Security mode off and Remote sim mode off.
On the computer the following are on Allow bluetooth devices to find this computer. Allow bluetooth devices to connect to the computer.
Hardware showing
Microsoft bluetooth enumerator
Broadcom 2045 Bluetooth 2.0+EDR USB Dongle
Thank you for your help Joe -

now that you have your dongle working, update to the latest drivers using this utility. after it installs it usually runs a wizard to set everything up.
