Anyone knows how to overclock Aspire 9300 ? Is it posible ?
ClckGen doesn't seem to work with this mobo, and I don't know PLL to try SetFSB or any other utility.
Another problem is with heat -my CPU (dual Turion TL50 idles close to 50C) -this will not help for overclock. It looks like I need to check, cooler, thermel paste or something.
I had previously an Aspire 5102 wich was easy to dismantle, easy to overclock and the temperature idle at 30.
9300 is a pain -hot,dificult to dismantle, and more dificult to overclock.
Thanks

i definately know that the graphic chip is locked out from overclocking which is greatly disappointing. I tried to use clock-gen to undervolt my cpu but i only managed a tiny reduction which was completely pointless in my opinion. i haven't tried overclocking the cpu as i have a tl-60 anyway but i fear that any overclocks would be small.
i have to say that the unit does run hotter than i anticipated but i think that may be due to the fact that the thermal module cools the graphics, northbridge and the cpu. i applied arctic silver to the unit in an attempt to reduce temperatures but i dont know how much of a difference it made.
I think that the thermal module in these units is quite poor and a much better design could have been used.
I actually think these units are quite easy to take apart, its just that they have a lot of screws in them. -
Actualy, graphic card could be overclocked quite well.I run it on 450/850 clocks(3D) without any problems. And it could go even higher. The ugly part is that it could not be upgraded, being soldered on the mobo.
After taking the notebook apart, replaced thermal paste, cleaned the cooler,I got same temperatures at idle. I did some testing and I came to this conclusion.Responsable for the high idle temp is ACPI or BIOS wich starts the fan very late at about 47-48C,in low speed.Somewhere around 55C speed increases.
In fact, after maintenance,CPU never passed over 60C,and graphic card maxed at 75C in games, even at overclocked speeds.
Should the fan start earlier,at 35-40C,the laptop would be much cooler.I don't know what Acer had in mind with these settings -maybe to keep the unit more silent.
And,since there is no software to control the fan speed I think we have to live with this heat.
As for the overclocking,I really wish I could do it -my CPU(TL50)could take it,and my machine needs some extra power. But,for know nobody came with a solution for nforce chipsets.I didn't find any PLL chip on the mobo and I am stuck,I don't know what to do,since the usual ways -ClockGen,SetFSB,CPUFSB -don't work. -

Well,my unit is 9302WSMi(not that it matters),but video card is 7300Go.I noticed that yours is 7600Go SE,and probably the unit is 9303.
I simply use Riva Tuner to overclock, and AtiTool 2.7b to test.
Don't know much about your card -what are your default clock speeds, what are you temps ?.Don't recall Nvidia locking overclock by bios in any card.It could be a posibility, card could not take overclock and driver resetting speeds to default. With older drivers and classic control panel,it was a tab with events, don't remember exactly the name, where you could see if card is reseted, due to heat or other reason. Also watch in Riva tuner's hardware monitoring,at what moment clocks are being reseted.
Try to use one of those old drivers 7,8 series to see events. -
i've trie both riva tuner and ati tool... maybe its something to do with the drivers like you say. I may try it soon
