My Aspire 3680-2626 got a trojan horse so I got XP Media Center Edition wiped out and had XP reinstalled. Ever since then I have no output for the headphones. When I go to Realtek HD Audio Manager (volume control) the spdif is grey and unresponsive unlike the green buttons on the rest. Is there a separate driver that needs to be reinstalled to operate. I want to play games with my laptop but want to plug into headphones or my stereo for greater sound. The aptop speakers work but aren't very loud. Any idea's?

The SPDIF output is digital, not the headphone jack.
Try going to Acer's website to see if they have a driver for it

You have to install drivers (including ones for sound) if you want your stuff to work. Reinstalling the OS is not the last step in the process.

I have installed the Realtek driver 3 times and it makes no difference. The sound from the laptop speakers works fine but not the headphones.
