i'm updating my cpu to an intel core2duo, and i've read i need to update my bios on my 5315. What all does this entail? does a back up disk need to be made? will i have to reinstall my OS? Do i just download the "flash BIOS v1.34" from the acer website? I've never updated an OS so I'm just making sure i do it right and don't screw anything up. thanks.

i have had great success using the windows flash utility
http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5315.html
you might want to use version 1.33,, people using 1.34 have been experiencing an issue with the PC not booting up from a COLD BOOT status
so i would download 1.33... open the downloaded zip file.... cut/paste file on the desktop
close zipfile
make sure power is plugged in,, and battery is fully charged
close all applications you possibily can
then double click on the new file on the desktop..
picture of it is below
click START... and wait till it completes..... then it will reboot the PC....
now you have updated your BIOS -
used the 1.34 np at all boot was ok after useing the windows file
maybe its becasue i had no programs on at all just the fresh install from new

i think the cold boot problem only happens with certain versions of the mainboard,,, but i'm not sure..
i downgraded my bios when i made the previous post,,, and then shutdown for about 30 mins,,, and had no problems doing a COLD BOOT after going back 1.33
sc00trex,, you will be fine w/ v 1.34,,, you may have to restart the PC twice when first booting from a powered off state...
shutdown,,, let your PC set a few minutes and reboot and tell me what happens,, post results at this link:

thanks.

it's not letting me for some reason. i open the file and try to run it but it tells me to close all aplications and run as an administrator..?
-
Right click on it and then use the run as administrator.
I shut down antivirus, firewall and a few others before I flashed my 5315.
Be sure you know what your doing and have right file.
They say you can ruin a 5315 with a bad flash !
Mine runs 1.34 fine. Though my cursor disappears every now and then, always did.

i checked for that and it wasn't there... checked again, but for some reason it's not on the tab.
-
Are you running Vista ? Don't think it's there in XP.
If in xp be sure your account has administrator rights.
If vista check the same.
James -
yes, i'm running vista. i'm the only account on the computer, but i've heard about single accounts not having administrator privelages for some reason. How do i check/change the administrative privelage settings?
-
maybe control pannel,,, user settings or some such option,,, not used vista in awhile

it says i'm the administrator. the window that pops up when i try to run the new bios also tells me to close all applications.
-
just close what apps you can... use TASK MANAGER to close them if they won't close otherwise... don't sweat it too much,,, what i do is reboot,,, close all things on the taskbar that will close and then run the flash.exe
w/ vista you do have to right click and select RUN AS ADMINISRATOR
in my experience anyway...

i've figured out how to run as administrator now, but now 'insydeflash' is asking for my current bios ID and version, and the new bios ID and version. where to i find the id's and versions at?
-
It's not asking you. If you try you'll see that you actually can't type in the boxes
-
-
Well yeah. Make sure you do what BigO said first.
-
finally got it to run. everything seems to be working fine. thanks for all the help!
-
Well congrats man. Btw the update for me lasted seconds, did you have problems or something?
-
problems with running the update? no, just problems with getting it to start. once i got it running it took a couple minutes.
-
i know what you mean... and now version 1.40 is having the same issues
-
lets see what happens!
Thanks BigO -
might wanna stick with ver 1.33

i have an Acer aspire 5520 running on AMD Athlon 64x2 TK-53 , 1.7GH, 2x256 L2 cache.can i change the processor with a faster one and with more cache (for example 1Gb L2 cache)???its running on Vista that its slowing it down a little bit .do i have to upgrade the BIOS too?after that , if i try too recovery my system , do i have to reinstal the BIOS|?
-
first you need to make sure that your new CPU is compatible with your socket,
then if you have not upgraded the BIOS since owning the PC, it may not be a bad idea to do so.... i upgrade mine very time ACER releases a new one. but you might not need to update the BIOS for the NEW CPU to be recognized.
you should never have to roll-back to a previous BIOS version to do a factory restore or to put the original CPU back in,,,, NEW BIOS files tend to have all previous support plus new features or fixes in them. -
If anyone cares, I just flashed my system bios on an Acer 5003WLMi because standby wasn't working. Upgraded the bios from 3A27 to 3A32 from the Acer website on an AMD Turion 64 ML32 and everything works fine. Although, I am running XP and used WinPhlash 1.3 build 46 to do the flash, I have had to restart because of an occasionally blank screen - stall at start-up.

i've succeded upgrading my bios to v1.33 under windows 7 beta closing the explorer and disabling avast resident shields.
it reboots with the celeron cpu but not with the t9500 cpu.
with the version before (it was the first version of the bios (maybe 1.14) with the t9500 i also got a black screen at boot, but i could hear the pc running and green leds.
with v1.33 i didn't hear the hard disk or fan, but the leds were green.
from which version of bios the t9500 can work on aspire 5315 ? -
should i retry letting the pc rest for a while ?
with or without the battery & power supply ? -
Hello I have tried updating my bios multiple of times and it always freezes on me. Can anyone give me help? I closed all the applications I could, so I'm thinking under task manager what am I suppose to stop the services or the processes? Also what should the only things that should be running on either of the two?
-
Thing is, there is one little detail that I think it need some comment: my acer aspire (sub) number: 5315- 2914 <- what does this number mean? does this refers to supported cpus as well?
One other...issue...is about the next processor I want to install on my notebook: Core 2 Duo T5800. Everest told me my current northbridge chipset supports FSB @533, 667 and 800Mhz. That being said I'm almost sure I can use C2D t5800 with no problems. at all. Intel's CPU comparison tool pointed out that there is no more issues remaining and I have got the green card to make it work: http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=35581,32431,
So...if I upgrade my BIOS and install this processor, is it safe to say that it will work with no problems and no extra needs (including undervolt process)?
Is there anything I missed? Running windows seven professional x64, will I need to format the computer and reinstall the OS?
please let me know...I'm just depending on this reply to get this to work.
I need your answers coz you guys have some experience on this...thank you so much!

TJ this might come as a shock for you but there are other people on these boards that know some stuff. Once again your post is totally OT so it has been deleted.
2. As long as T5800 is socket P(and I think it is) it will work, no problem.
3. Normally no OS re-installation is required.
4. Undervolting is not at all required. Undervolting is something optional that most people do in order to achieve better battery life and lower CPU temps...
Hope that helps
